About The Position

The Elementary Principal uses leadership, supervisory, and administrative skills to empower and develop staff to create a culture of student and staff learning. This role involves collaborating with all stakeholders to develop the school's vision, mission, and goals, and implementing a school improvement plan. The principal will monitor academic progress, ensure instructional guidelines and curriculum fidelity, and guarantee access to the core curriculum with differentiated instruction and intervention. They will also ensure students have access to activities supporting their holistic growth and wellness, and evaluate staff for professional development and growth. The principal is responsible for staff recruitment, hiring, and management, fostering a culture of collaboration and high expectations, and managing organizational resources for a safe and effective learning environment. This includes aligning human, fiscal, and technological resources with district and school goals, adhering to policies, and maintaining student conduct and discipline. The principal also ensures a safe learning environment by following crisis and behavior plans.

Requirements

  • A current, valid Kansas Building Administration License required
  • Experience as an Assistant Principal or Principal required
  • Minimum 5 years’ teaching experience required
  • Ability to communicate both verbally and written in order to communicate with others inside and outside of the organization for the purpose of giving and obtaining information
  • Ability to communicate effectively with a Supervisor when their discretion is needed
  • Ability to perform as an effective team player
  • Ability to plan, organize, make decisions and prioritize work to meet the daily demands of the building
  • Exhibits a professional manner and a positive attitude
  • Uses good judgment to make decisions on recurring assignments
  • Displays a significant degree of professionalism and confidentiality
  • Ability to conform to proper standards of professional dress and appearance
  • Knowledge of company’s mission, purpose, goals and the role of every employee in achieving each of them

Responsibilities

  • Include all stakeholders that represent the school community in developing the vision, mission, and goals of the school that align with the overall mission and goals of the District
  • Facilitate the collaborative development and implementation of the school improvement plan
  • Use data to monitor and adjust as necessary the action plan and goals of the school improvement plan
  • Ensure all students are making academic progress by monitoring the instructional program
  • Ensure instructional guidelines are in place and teachers are following the district adopted course and grade level standards and teachers are following the curriculum with fidelity
  • Ensure that all students have access to the core curriculum and that teachers differentiate instruction and intervention based on student data
  • Ensure that all students have access to a variety of student activities that support their leadership, physical, emotional, social and attitudinal growth
  • Ensure students have access and are supported with services that support mental, physical, and emotional wellness for every student
  • Evaluate all staff members for the purpose of improving student growth, identify professional learning needs, promoting teacher leadership, and making decisions
  • Responsible for recruiting, screening, hiring, assigning, disciplining and dismissing school staff
  • Promote a culture of learning and collaboration by providing opportunities for staff to acquire, enhance, and refine the knowledge, skills, and commitment necessary to create and support high levels of learning for all students
  • Use data to develop differentiate professional learning to promote teacher leadership
  • Evaluate data regarding beliefs, processes and structures within the school that support or amped rigor in teaching and learning
  • Create and sustain a culture of collaboration, trust, learning and high expectations for all
  • Ensure the management of the organization, operations and resources for a safe efficient and effective learning environment
  • Obtain, allocate and align human, fiscal, and technological resources to meet the district and school goals
  • Follow established timelines and guidelines for all of the elements required by federal, state and district policies
  • Maintain high standards of student conduct and enforce discipline as necessary and assure due process for students when appropriate
  • Ensure a safe learning environment by adhering to all crisis plans, school wide behavior plans and policies
  • Assists with additional duties as assigned by the Assistant Superintendent and Executive Directors.
