About The Position

Lake Superior Academy is hiring a full time Elementary Paraprofessional. Lake Superior Academy located in Sault Ste Marie is a tuition free public school academy serving children in grades K-5th. Our vision is to help each student develop a happy heart, an eagerness to learn and a strong foundation for success. We employ instructional methods that foster creativity, exploration, and strong problem-solving skills while also ensuring accountability for student progress. We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Paraprofessional to join our team. The ideal candidate will assist teachers in providing support to students, helping to create a positive and productive learning environment. This role is essential in fostering academic growth and ensuring that all students have the resources they need to succeed.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Previous experience working with children or in an educational setting is highly desirable.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively as part of a team.
  • Patience, empathy, and a genuine passion for helping students succeed.
  • All LSA applicants need to be reliable, trustworthy and ready to join a team of positive, problem solvers.

Nice To Haves

  • Associate's degree or bachelor's degree in education or related field preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Assist teachers with the preparation and implementation of instructional materials, resources, and classroom activities.
  • Provide instructional assistance under the supervision of the classroom Teacher.
  • Provide one-on-one and small group support to students in various subjects.
  • Support students with special needs and implement individualized education programs (IEPs) under the direction of the classroom Teacher.
  • Help with classroom management and maintain a positive learning environment.
  • Monitor student progress and behavior, providing feedback to teachers and other educational staff.
  • Supervise students during non-instructional times (e.g., recess, lunch).
  • Communicate effectively with teachers, students, and parents regarding student progress and needs.
  • Maintain confidentiality of student records and other sensitive information.
  • Assist in the preparation and delivery of instructional plans.
  • Support student assessment
  • Regular and predictable attendance
