Elementary Paraeducator (Grade K-5)
About The Position
Under the direction of an assigned site supervisor and the general guidance of classroom teachers, the Elementary Paraeducator assists in implementing the educational program for students in an elementary general education environment to meet instructional goals and objectives. In addition to providing instructional support to students in grades K–5, the paraeducator primarily assists classroom teachers in creating and maintaining engaging academic environments. The position works 3.5 hours per day, five days per week, over 9.5 work months. The listed salary is $20.00–$24.09 per hour.
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Any combination equivalent to high school graduation, training, and experience sufficient to demonstrate the listed knowledge and abilities.
- Pass the District’s Instructional Assistant Proficiency Test in reading and math, in accordance with the Federal No Child Left Behind Act.
Responsibilities
- Assist classroom teachers in providing instruction to students in assigned classrooms.
- Use instructional methods and practices intended to achieve teacher-set goals and support student achievement.
- Use curricular materials and assessments for literacy and numeracy instruction and intervention.
- Work with small groups to reinforce instruction.
- Provide individual assistance to students, explain errors, and answer questions as directed.
- Help monitor student behavior in classrooms and during outdoor activities.
- Assist students with lessons, instructional games, and activities.
- Communicate student performance and behavior progress to classroom teachers.
- Support students’ self-esteem through positive examples, emotional support, a friendly attitude, and general guidance.
- Perform clerical and other supportive duties related to classroom activities and management.
- Operate classroom equipment, including a computer.
- Perform other related duties consistent with the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.
