019-2026: Elementary Music Teacher .7 FTE (Anticipated open to public)
About The Position
The Washougal School District is seeking a .7 FTE Elementary Music Teacher for Hathaway Elementary School for the 2026-27 School Year. This is a certificated, continuing contract position after a provisional period. The teacher will develop and maintain a safe and effective learning environment, plan and implement instructional programs to meet individual student needs, evaluate student performance, use appropriate instructional methods and materials, establish clear classroom procedures, and provide for the personal and social growth of students. The role involves communicating student progress to parents/guardians, maintaining student records, directing non-certificated personnel, participating in staff meetings and team planning, and working cooperatively with building teams. The teacher will demonstrate positive relationship skills with students, families, and staff, encourage family and community involvement, and use technology to provide challenging instruction. The position requires adherence to Governing Policies and District Regulations and Procedures. Additional functions include serving on staff committees as needed and performing related tasks. Requirements
- Must qualify for a valid Washington State teaching certificate with appropriate endorsements as required by law
- Ability to implement classroom management procedures for large and small groups of students, providing an environment conducive to learning
- Ability to communicate clearly and effectively in written and oral form
- Ability to integrate relevant technology for the purpose of student learning across curricular areas
- Flexibility and adaptability in varied conditions and settings
- Ability to assess the needs of students and implement effective lessons to meet those needs through the use of appropriate instructional materials
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with a variety of staff and stakeholders
- Ability to establish positive relationships with students, in a mutually respectful, supportive and accessible manner
- Ability to relate positively to students and adults of varying socioeconomic, cultural, ethnic backgrounds, learning styles and/or disabilities
- Ability to process information in order to make sound judgments and decisions
- Bachelor’s degree in job related area
- WA/OSPI Teaching Certificate with a Music endorsement
- Valid First Aid Certificate
- WSP/FBI Background Clearance
- WA State Sexual Misconduct Inquiry
Responsibilities
- Develops and maintains a safe and effective learning environment
- Plans and implements an instructional program designed to meet individual student needs
- Evaluates student performance and progress
- Uses necessary and appropriate instructional methods and materials, which are suited to the needs of the students and to the nature of the learning activities, program and/or curriculum involved
- Establishes and implements, in a positive and supportive manner, clear classroom procedures, routines and expectations
- Provides for the personal and social growth of students
- Makes referrals for assistance where appropriate
- Participates in team planning focused on instructional practices and student learning
- Communicates student progress to parents/guardians
- Maintains appropriate student records
- Directs the activities of assigned non-certificated personnel
- Participates in staff meetings and other activities deemed necessary by the District and/or building principal, in order to accomplish the objectives of the position and for professional growth
- Work cooperatively with a building team in planning, supporting and providing instruction, and share with other staff the responsibility for supervision of activities and student behavior outside the regular classroom
- Demonstrate positive relationship skills with students, families and district staff, maintaining ongoing and open communication
- Encourage and provide the structure for ongoing, meaningful involvement of families and community members in the classroom and school
- Use technology to provide challenging instruction to students of all learning levels
- Possess knowledge of and adhere to Governing Policies and District Regulations and Procedures
- Serves on staff committees as needed
- Performs related tasks consistent with the scope and responsibility of the position
