About The Position

The Elementary Music Teacher will be responsible for planning and implementing daily, weekly, and yearly goals and objectives according to students’ needs and within Fairmont’s overall curriculum guidelines. This role involves promoting Fairmont’s philosophy and actively working to develop a positive working environment. The teacher will plan and implement weekly lesson plans, utilize the adopted Learning Management System (LMS) for homework and communication, and facilitate student learning through technology. The position also includes organizing and maintaining a safe, disciplined, yet stimulating academic classroom environment, planning and supervising special academic and social events, and contributing to the planning and arrangement of age-appropriate field trips. The teacher will maintain a disciplined classroom, communicate positively with parents, and maintain appropriate confidentiality. Supervision duties may include classes, recess, and after-school activities. The role requires supporting and attending school events and participating constructively in staff meetings and professional development. Continuous professional development is expected through reading, workshops, and conferences. The teacher must follow Fairmont Schools dress code policy and set a good example for students. Other duties may be assigned by the Head of School and Associate Head of School.

Requirements

  • Bachelor Degree required
  • Completion of the CBEST
  • Must be able to relate professionally with students, parents, and staff.
  • Demonstrate excellence in a variety of teaching techniques in the subject of expertise.

Nice To Haves

  • Teaching Credential preferred
  • Minimum of two years teaching experience in the classroom preferred

Responsibilities

  • Plans and implements daily, weekly, and yearly goals and objectives according to students’ needs and within Fairmont’s overall curriculum guidelines.
  • Promotes Fairmont’s philosophy and actively works to develop a positive working environment among students, teachers, administrator, and support staff.
  • Plans for, writes, and implements weekly lesson plans to assure adherence to and completion of Fairmont’s curriculum and to facilitate classroom continuity in his/her absence.
  • Utilizes Fairmont adopted Learning Management System (LMS) to post homework/assignments and communicate with students and parents.
  • Facilitates and inspires student learning in and through the use of technology by designing learning opportunities that incorporate age-appropriate technology skills, using technology to assist with teaching and learning, modeling the effective use of technology.
  • Seeks out and implements changes in scheduling and planning that will enhance individual learning, facilitate transition times, and ensures on-task behavior.
  • Organizes and maintains a safe, disciplined, yet stimulating academic classroom environment.
  • Plans implements, and supervises special academic, social events as required.
  • Contributes to the planning and arranging of age appropriate field trips; conducts and supervises them in a safe and organized manner, utilizing parent support where needed.
  • Maintains disciplined classroom; assures that all the children are aware of rules and their consequences; and further assures consistency in applying the rules.
  • Is responsible to Head of School and Associate Head of School for taking directions and communicating needs.
  • Keeps Head of School informed of children who need special academic attention or have behavioral issues.
  • Assures safety standards are taught and implemented.
  • Maintains ongoing positive communications with parents professionally and in a timely manner.
  • Maintains appropriate confidentiality.
  • Supervises, as schedule requires, classes, classrooms, recess duty, and after school duty (including but not limited to study hall, homework club, and car loading).
  • Supports and attends orientation programs, Parent Nights, Open House, musical programs, sports events, pentathlon, and promotion and all other special school activities and events when appropriate.
  • Attends and constructively participates in staff meetings and professional development and shows evidence of follow through in classroom application.
  • Continues to develop professionally through reading, attending workshops and in-services and participation in conferences.
  • Must follow Fairmont Schools dress code policy.
  • Sets good example for students by arriving on time, dressing professionally, planning creative and productive lessons, and promptly evaluating and returning student work.
  • Carries on other duties as directed by the Head of School and Associate Head of School.
