About The Position

The Elementary Lunchroom Supervisor supervises the lunchroom and playground to create a safe and pleasant environment for staff and students. The role involves actively monitoring students, enforcing safety rules, assisting younger students, addressing potential conflicts, and communicating relevant problems or situations to teachers. The position is at Dr. Preston Williams Elementary School and is scheduled on student contact days from 10:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. (2 hours per day). Pay is $18.10 per hour. This position is not within the collective bargaining unit, is not administrative, and is not exempt. Benefit information is available on the Human Resources webpage.

Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Ability to communicate and interact appropriately with children and adults.
• Ability to follow simple oral or written instructions.
• Ability to walk, bend, reach, and engage in physical activity regularly.

Nice To Haves

• Previous experience working with children.
• Recreation background.
• Knowledge of peer mediation and conflict resolution techniques and ability to apply them to lunchroom and playground situations.
• Knowledge of First Aid.

Responsibilities

• Maintain discipline by enforcing safety rules in the lunchroom, playground, and activity room.
• Assist younger students with opening cartons, wrappers, and similar items when they cannot do so independently.
• Notice and defuse situations in the lunchroom or on the playground before they escalate.
• Interact with students in a fair and consistent manner.
• Keep teachers informed about problems or situations involving their students.
• Follow the guidelines and protocols of the assigned building.
• Actively supervise students, moving throughout the work area as needed and performing tasks involving consistent mobility.
• Perform other duties as assigned by the supervisor.
