About The Position

This is a long-term substitute assignment for an Elementary General Music Teacher, running through May 2026. The role is within Lynn Public Schools, a diverse and dynamic urban district serving approximately 17,000 students across 29 school sites. Lynn Public Schools is committed to fostering an inclusive environment that celebrates diversity and responds to the social-emotional needs of all students and families, aiming to help students thrive and impact the community and world. The Music Department is seeking a candidate experienced in lesson planning, assessment, data-driven instruction, and providing student feedback. The curriculum is based on the MA Curriculum Frameworks, requiring knowledge of standards and their progression for effective, standards-based lesson planning. Specific details regarding grade level(s), school assignment, and class organization will be provided by the music supervisor and principals.

Requirements

  • Hold a valid license from the Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education in Music: Vocal/Instrumental/General – All Levels
  • Bachelor’s degree
  • SEI Endorsement as needed

Responsibilities

  • Planning and implementing standards-based lessons with clear objectives
  • Providing appropriate and effective learning experiences for students from a wide range of socio-economic levels and cultural backgrounds
  • Designing and demonstrating differentiated instruction to meet the needs of all students (Modify, scaffold, etc. for Special Education and English Learner Education)
  • Using a variety of formal and informal assessments to accurately measure student progress toward mastery of grade-level standards and to modify further instruction
  • Providing a motivating and stimulating, safe and supportive learning environment
  • Adapting Music lessons for individual, small group, and remedial instruction to meet the needs of identified students or subgroups of students
  • Developing and maintaining pupil-teacher relationships conducive to effective teaching and learning
  • Maintaining a growth mindset
  • Establishing and maintaining standards of student behavior
  • Participating in school-wide and department-wide professional development activities
  • Establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with students, parents, staff and the community, including collaborating with colleagues on curriculum, lesson and assessment design
  • Using computers and other technology to support student learning in and out of the classroom
  • Rehearsing with students and leading various music performances for the school community
  • Willingness to participate in music department learning opportunities
  • Ability to accompany ensembles on piano (or willingness to develop this skill)
