About The Position

This position is for an Elementary Dual Language Teacher specializing in Portuguese within the Hudson Public Schools. The role focuses on providing direct instruction in Portuguese to elementary students, upholding the district's high expectations for achievement and equal access to instruction. Requirements

  • Must hold the appropriate DESE issued license in field and grade level license for Foreign Language (Portuguese 1-6).
  • Must hold the Bilingual Education Endorsement (BEE) associated with the language of instruction, or possession of a valid Transitional Bilingual Education (TBE) license, or Transitional Bilingual Learning endorsement associated with the language of instruction.
  • Portuguese proficiency of at least Advanced Mid.
  • English proficiency of at least Intermediate.
  • Demonstrate experience working with students of diverse backgrounds with diverse needs in an equitable and inclusive manner.
  • Demonstrate experience evaluating student skills through writing reports that interpret/summarize findings.
  • Demonstrate strong problem-solving skills and data-collection skills to support student success.
  • Demonstrate ability to plan and implement lessons based on district and school objectives and the needs and abilities of students.
  • Demonstrate strong written and verbal skills for communicating with parents, students, teachers, administrators, and community representatives.

Responsibilities

  • Integrating knowledge of second language acquisition and evidenced-based practices for effective Dual Language Program implementation.
  • Planning instruction that promotes the educational growth and development of students.
  • Using innovative approaches and instructional strategies, including effective use of technologies, to increase student learning and confidence.
  • Creating a classroom environment conducive to learning, celebrating cultural differences, and appropriate to student maturity and interests.
  • Effectively managing the classroom environment.
  • Guiding the learning process toward curriculum goals and establishing clear objectives for lessons, units, and projects, communicating these to students.
  • Mentoring students' understanding of the curriculum effectively and adjusting instruction, materials, or assessments as needed.
  • Providing effective instruction that meets the individual needs, interests, and abilities of students, including making appropriate adjustments and modifications to consistently deliver the curriculum in the partner language.
  • Making learning goals clear to students, using appropriate instructional and questioning techniques.
  • Identifying, referring, and accommodating students requiring Special Education.
  • Assessing student accomplishments regularly and providing progress reports.
  • Promoting high standards and expectations for student achievement.
  • Collaborating with colleagues, students, and/or parents on a regular basis.
  • Ensuring the safety, well-being, and work output of students.
  • Performing other reasonably job-related tasks.
