About The Position

DC Prep is hiring a full-time, 10-month Elementary Art Teacher for the Anacostia Elementary Campus in Washington, DC, starting August 2027. The teacher will lead art instruction for Preschool through 3rd grade in a dedicated art classroom and will interact with students across the campus throughout the school year. The role contributes to a joyful, predictable school culture through thoughtful classroom routines, creative planning, and engaging instruction. The teacher will also help plan school events and collaborate with fellow specials teachers on performances, showcases, and interdisciplinary projects that celebrate student talent. DC Prep is a public charter school network serving more than 2,100 preschool through 8th-grade students across six campuses in Wards 5, 7, and 8. Its approach emphasizes rigorous standards-based instruction, targeted interventions, meaningful assessments, social-emotional learning, and continual reflection and refinement. Teachers adapt curriculum to student needs, plan grade-level and small-group instruction, use academic and classroom-culture data to guide teaching, and collaborate with colleagues to support student outcomes. DC Prep provides weekly professional development, observations, and feedback conversations, as well as opportunities for art educators to attend a conference and connect with a broader arts education community. Teachers work on campus Monday through Friday from 7:15 a.m. to 4:15 p.m., and until 5:00 p.m. on Wednesdays for professional development. The role includes clerical duties related to instructional supplies, student records, attendance, and assessments; assigned morning, lunch, and afternoon duties; and, as needed, participation in field trips, after-school events, family-teacher conferences, home visits, and other parent and student events. Staff may occasionally report to another campus for professional development or network events.
