About The Position

This is a 1.0 FTE (full-time equivalent) continuing contract position for the 2026-27 School Year at Hathaway Elementary. The role involves teaching a combination of 2nd and 3rd grades. The position begins on August 24, 2026, and follows a 184-day calendar with 180 student attendance days. Salary is based on the 2025-26 schedule and placement depends on education and experience.

Requirements

  • Must qualify for a valid Washington State teaching certificate with appropriate endorsements as required by law
  • Ability to implement classroom management procedures for large and small groups of students, providing an environment conducive to learning
  • Ability to communicate clearly and effectively in written and oral form
  • Ability to integrate relevant technology for the purpose of student learning across curricular areas
  • Flexibility and adaptability in varied conditions and settings
  • Ability to assess the needs of students and implement effective lessons to meet those needs through the use of appropriate instructional materials
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with a variety of staff and stakeholders
  • Ability to establish positive relationships with students, in a mutually respectful, supportive, and accessible manner
  • Ability to relate positively to students and adults of varying socioeconomic, cultural, ethnic backgrounds, learning styles and/or disabilities
  • Ability to process information in order to make sound judgments and decisions
  • Bachelor’s degree in job related area
  • WA/OSPI Teaching Certificate with an Elementary Education endorsement
  • Valid First Aid Certificate
  • WSP/FBI Background Clearance
  • WA State Sexual Misconduct Inquiry

Responsibilities

  • Develops and maintains a safe and effective learning environment
  • Plans and implements an instructional program designed to meet individual student needs
  • Evaluates student performance and progress
  • Uses necessary and appropriate instructional methods and materials suited to student needs and curriculum
  • Establishes and implements clear classroom procedures, routines, and expectations in a positive and supportive manner
  • Provides for the personal and social growth of students
  • Makes referrals for assistance where appropriate
  • Participates in team planning focused on instructional practices and student learning
  • Communicates student progress to parents/guardians
  • Maintains appropriate student records
  • Directs the activities of assigned non-certificated personnel
  • Participates in staff meetings and other activities deemed necessary by the District and/or building principal for the objectives of the position and professional growth
  • Works cooperatively with a building team in planning, supporting, and providing instruction
  • Shares responsibility with other staff for supervision of activities and student behavior outside the regular classroom
  • Demonstrates positive relationship skills with students, families, and district staff, maintaining ongoing and open communication
  • Encourages and provides the structure for ongoing, meaningful involvement of families and community members in the classroom and school
  • Uses technology to provide challenging instruction to students of all learning levels
  • Possesses knowledge of and adheres to Governing Policies and District Regulations and Procedures
  • Serves on staff committees as needed
  • Performs related tasks consistent with the scope and responsibility of the position
