The Electrophysiology Tech operates all monitoring, recording, and related equipment used during procedures. This role involves collecting and preparing pertinent data for physician and staff use, supporting the physician and staff during procedures, and monitoring the patient's electrocardiogram for cardiac dysrhythmias. The technician is responsible for operating the defibrillator and performing cardiopulmonary resuscitation when required, providing assistance in emergency situations, and assisting in pre and post-procedure activities related to equipment and patient care. Additionally, the role involves positioning the patient and selecting exposure factors for all radiographic procedures, identifying cardiovascular and peripheral vascular anatomy, and performing initial troubleshooting, calibration, cleaning, and quality assurance measures on equipment. The technician also prepares, delivers, and picks up reusable items for re-sterilization, and prepares and operates imaging, angiographic, interventional, and storage systems. A key responsibility is scrubbing to assist the physician with diagnostic, interventional, and surgical procedures, demonstrating knowledge of equipment and options. The role requires the ability to work effectively with medical staff and fellows, serving as a technical resource, role model, and/or preceptor for students and staff. This includes developing, training, and administering competencies to staff, and facilitating clinical problem-solving and collaboration with other departments for patient education and cardiology processes. The position requires demonstrating knowledge and skills appropriate for the age of the patients served, understanding principles of growth and development, and assessing data to meet age-specific needs.
