About The Position

This is an Air Force National Guard Title 32 excepted-service position at the Michigan Alpena Combat Readiness Training Center (CRTC), within the Michigan Air National Guard. Michigan Air National Guard membership is required, and the selected employee must serve in a compatible military assignment and wear the military uniform. The position is located in an Air Traffic Control Squadron’s Airfield Systems Flight and provides technical expertise to maintain and certify Air Traffic Control and Landing Systems (ATCALS), including related communication systems. The work involves investigation, analysis, diagnosis, testing, tuning, correction, optimization, alignment, and verification or certification to help ensure continuous, reliable operation. The vacancy may qualify for a recruitment incentive of up to 25% of the basic salary rate. The employee certifies assigned systems and subsystems against Air Force and Federal Aviation Administration standards and safety requirements. Because ATCALS may not be used without employee certification, the role also requires determining when malfunctions warrant system shutdown and advising whether systems are operationally acceptable and safe within applicable standards and tolerances. The employee provides technical guidance and assistance to other technicians, trains apprentices on the job, documents training, certifies task qualifications, and schedules task training. Safety practices, required protective equipment, and a clean, safe work environment must be maintained.
