About The Position

This position provides technical work in the installation, repair, and maintenance of a wide variety of electrical and electronic equipment with emphasis on traffic control equipment & related devices for Division 6. The duties to be performed include installing traffic signal equipment, wiring detectors, installing and wiring controllers, tracing out electrical wiring diagrams to locate trouble, dismantling and reassembling components, replacing worn or faulty parts. Work will be performed without constant supervision and will be evaluated by the supervisor for efficient use of time and proper operation of Traffic Control Systems repaired and maintained.

Requirements

  • Ability to lift 80+ pounds, shoulder high
  • Ability to use and operate aerial bucket truck up to 50+ feet in height without accommodations
  • Ability to perform manual and physical labor
  • Ability to work in environmental conditions which include extreme cold and excessive heat conditions, exposure to noise, dust, asphalt, traffic and heavy construction
  • Ability to work non-traditional work hours including weekends, holidays, nights, and times of emergency
  • Ability to legally operate CDL required equipment/trucks with both manual and automatic transmissions at the time of hire or within 360 days of hire date
  • Possession of a current Class “B” Commercial Driver’s License on the date of hire, OR obtain a Class “A” Commercial Driver’s License through completion of on-the-job training and all requirements mandated by Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulations (Federal Registry 49 CFR 383) within 360 days of the date of hire
  • No more than two convictions of moving violations within the past three years
  • No convictions of an alcohol or drug related traffic offense within the past five years
  • Valid, current North Carolina driver’s license appropriate for the type of vehicle to be operated
  • If a driver applicant has possessed an out-of-state driver’s license in the past ten years, the driver’s record from the state(s) involved shall be obtained.
  • Pre-employment drug testing is required
  • Must sign a release form (ALCDRG-01) and a background statement (ALCDRG-06) allowing the NCDOT to check with previous employers for the past three years about controlled substances and alcohol testing
  • Successful completion of NCDOT post offer employment evaluation
  • Associate's degree in electronics from an appropriately accredited institution and (1) one year of experience in the repair and maintenance of a variety of specialized electronic devices, preferably including some responsibility for circuit modification; or an equivalent combination of training and experience.
