About The Position

This direct-hire role supports a hardware design engineering group developing mission-critical aerospace and defense electronic systems. In an advanced engineering lab, the technician will help move engineered systems through the product lifecycle by turning concepts into physical prototypes, diagnosing board failures, and supporting production readiness. The company is described as an agile, highly secure engineering partner with minimal bureaucracy. The position works a standard first-shift schedule in the Greater Milwaukee area and includes approximately 20 days of travel per year for field test support. Compensation is a base salary of up to $70,000, scaled according to bench experience and diagnostic expertise, plus a comprehensive corporate benefits package and a company 401(k) match.

Requirements

  • Hands-on experience as an electronics technician or engineering technologist.
  • Associate degree in Electronics or Electrical Technology, or at least 6 years of master technician bench experience in lieu of a degree.
  • High proficiency in PCB population, surface-mount modification, and fine-pitch component solder rework.
  • Ability to read, interpret, and trace complex electrical schematics, component specification sheets, and wiring diagrams.
  • Practical expertise using oscilloscopes, multimeters, spectrum analyzers, and bench power supplies to troubleshoot hardware to the component level.
  • Legally authorized to work in the United States without present or future sponsorship.
  • Reside within a comfortable daily commuting distance of the Greater Milwaukee area.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience supporting high-reliability quality management environments, such as AS9100D, ISO 9001, or defense systems.
  • Familiarity with power supply topologies, custom electro-optical systems, or basic RF electronics.
  • Exposure to 3D CAD tools such as SolidWorks or circuit simulation platforms such as LTspice.

Responsibilities

  • Populate and assemble prototype printed circuit boards (PCBs), including fine-pitch solder rework on complex multilayer boards for prototype development and low-volume production.
  • Partner with hardware design engineers on initial board bring-up, functional bench testing, and root-cause fault isolation.
  • Troubleshoot circuit boards, wiring harnesses, and electromechanical subassemblies to identify component-level failures using oscilloscopes and diagnostic tools.
  • Assist with component sourcing and Bill of Materials (BOM) verification.
  • Calibrate and maintain precision laboratory equipment.
  • Create assembly documentation, validation test reports, and engineering data logs in alignment with high-reliability quality standards.

Benefits

  • Comprehensive corporate benefits package
  • 401(k) company match
