Requirements

• Four (4) years of experience in the installation, maintenance, and repair of aircraft radio communications transmitting and receiving equipment, one year of which must have been at the journey level.
• Vision and color perception must be adequate to effectively and safely perform essential job-related functions.
• A valid General Radiotelephone Operator License issued by the Federal Communications Commission (FCC).
• A valid California Class C Driver License is required to perform job-related essential functions.
• Applicants offered this position would be required to show proof of a driver license prior to appointment.
• Out-of-state applicants must have a valid license from the state in which they reside at the time of filing.
• Out-of-state applicants will be required to obtain a California Class C Driver License prior to appointment.
• Successful applicants for this position will be required to obtain a copy of their driving record from the California State Department of Motor Vehicles before being appointed.
• A copy of your driving record must be presented at the time of your appointment.
• License must not be suspended, restricted, or revoked.
• AN APPLICANT WHOSE DRIVING RECORD SHOWS THREE (3) OR MORE MOVING VIOLATIONS WITHIN THE LAST YEAR WILL NOT BE APPOINTED.
• Journey-level experience applies to a person who has completed an apprenticeship program or is an experienced worker, not a trainee, and is fully qualified and able to perform a specific trade without supervision.
• In order to qualify, applicants must submit a copy of their valid General Radiotelephone Operator License at the time of filing, or within seven (7) calendar days from the date of application filing.

Nice To Haves

• Applicants who fail the pre-investigative questionnaire will be disqualified and will have to wait three (3) months from the date of the disqualification to reapply.

Responsibilities

• Maintains specialized aviation electronic equipment by inspecting, testing, repairing, configuring, and replacing equipment in order to ensure: a) the equipment is in compliance with the manufacturer's specifications and b) aircrews can perform their mission.
• Assists quality assurance inspectors when Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) certification is required by recommending procedures and inspecting/testing equipment in order to maintain compliance with Federal Aviation Regulations (FARs).
• Performs in-flight troubleshooting by flying with flight crews, observing equipment operations, determining solutions, recommending equipment, etc. in order to ensure equipment is in compliance with the manufacturer's specifications.
• Adapts commercial equipment for specialized uses by creating interfacing solutions in order to meet flight crew mission requirements.
• Orders specialized aviation electronics equipment parts and supplies as needed by identifying needs and informing purchasers in order to ensure parts and supplies are available.
• Keeps airframe times, materials, and service records by using a computer, entering information, reviewing/analyzing information, etc. in order to maintain airworthiness.
• Participates in the set-up and operation of tactical air-to-ground communications systems by installing, testing, maintaining radio and antenna systems in order to ensure critical radio communications capabilities.
