Electronics and Electrical System Design Engineer- Mid-Level
About The Position
Battelle is seeking an Electronics and Electrical System Design Engineer for a full-time opportunity in Columbus, OH. The selected candidate will join a team responsible for the design of complex, advanced-technology electronic and electromechanical systems for government and industry customers. The ideal candidate brings a strong motivation to learn on the job, the ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously, and an enthusiasm for working across a diverse set of projects. Onsite work is required for the first 6–9 months, with the potential for a hybrid arrangement in the future, dependent on customer contract requirements. Professional growth will extend beyond technical acumen to include contributing to proposal efforts, building relationships with internal clients, participating in IR&D studies, and supporting business development efforts.
Requirements
- Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering or Computer Engineering from an ABET-accredited ECE program with a minimum of 5 years of demonstrated experience (relevant research, internship, and co-op experience counts toward total); or a bachelor's degree in a related field with 8 years of experience; or a master's degree in a related field with 5 years of experience; or a PhD in a related field with 2 years of experience
- Demonstrated mastery of electrical engineering fundamentals with a strong analytical approach to problem solving and a self-motivated drive to learn on the job
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications including Visio, Excel, PowerPoint, and Word
- Excellent verbal and written communication and interpersonal skills
- Must be a US citizen and must be willing to obtain and maintain a government TS/SCI security clearance
Nice To Haves
- Experience with embedded systems design, programming, and troubleshooting
- Hands-on mechanical and electrical experience with standard tools and methods (soldering, crimping, hand tools, and debugging in lab or field environments)
- Ability to collaborate with others to solve challenging problems across technical disciplines
Responsibilities
- Design complex electronic and electromechanical systems, generating block diagrams, concept designs, circuit board schematics, and wiring diagrams and wire harness drawings
- Generate and debug firmware code for microprocessors used in embedded systems
- Perform reverse engineering of electronic systems
- Perform calculations and simulations to predict system performance and conduct trade studies for component identification and selection
- Review PCB layouts and generate CCA documentation
- Perform testing, debug and resolve errors using standard electrical laboratory equipment
- Write test plan documents and support technicians with test setup construction
- Interpret, research, and understand design requirements to inform engineering decisions
- Create summary presentations, reports, and appropriate technical documentation including manuals and procedures
- Provide expertise and support for designs post-delivery
- Contribute to proposal efforts, IR&D studies, and business development activities as needed
