We are seeking an experienced Engineering Lab Technician to support the validation and repair of complex electronic and telecommunications systems. Working closely with electrical and mechanical engineers, the technician will test and troubleshoot electronic hardware, operate lab equipment, maintain calibration schedules, and help identify root causes of failures on field returns, pre-production and production units. This is a hands-on role ideal for a technically curious problem-solver who enjoys working across hardware, networking, and lab operations.

Requirements

  • Associate degree in Electronics, Electrical Engineering Technology, or a related field — or equivalent combination of military, trade school, or work experience.
  • 5+ years of directly related experience in electronics assembly, test, or repair, ideally in a telecommunications, RF, or networking environment.
  • Proven ability to read and work from schematics, datasheets, and written work instructions.
  • Hands-on experience with electronic test equipment, including power supplies, oscilloscopes, function/signal generators, digital multimeters (DMMs), spectrum analyzers, network analyzers, optical power meters, and PIM testers.
  • Demonstrated proficiency with electronic and hand-powered tools.
  • Experience wiring and cabling complex rack assemblies.
  • Working knowledge of IT infrastructure and hands-on experience with networking equipment such as servers, routers, and switches.
  • Command-line proficiency in Linux (e.g., RHEL, Ubuntu), including basic system administration and remote access via SSH.
  • Ability to write or modify simple scripts (e.g., Python or Bash) to support automation and testing.
  • Strong written communication skills, including the ability to author clear test reports and process documentation.
  • Strong critical-thinking and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to multitask, prioritize work, and perform effectively in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to mentor junior technicians and contribute to a collaborative team culture.

Nice To Haves

  • IPC-A-610 (Acceptability of Electronic Assemblies) and/or J-STD-001 (Soldering) certification.
  • Experience with ERP systems such as SAP, Oracle, or NetSuite.
  • Experience in an ISO 9001 or AS9100 quality-managed environment.
  • Familiarity with RF measurement concepts (S-parameters, return loss, PIM) and 50-ohm test practices.
  • Experience with version-controlled documentation (Git, Confluence, or similar).

Responsibilities

  • Repair complex electronic and telecommunications equipment, diagnosing faults to the component level.
  • Build, test, and document the performance of power supplies, RF boards, and other electronic assemblies in accordance with engineering instructions.
  • Read and interpret electrical schematics, mechanical drawings, and block diagrams.
  • Perform fine-pitch surface-mount soldering and de-soldering, including BGA and other advanced packages, in accordance with IPC standards.
  • Operate and maintain test benches, including COTS server, switch, and router equipment.
  • Perform mechanical assembly and disassembly of subsystems and rack-level integrations.
  • Wire and cable complex rack assemblies, including signal, power, and fiber connections.
  • Collaborate with electrical and mechanical engineers to support prototype builds, design verification, and root-cause analysis.
  • Ensure periodic calibration of electronic test equipment is completed on schedule and properly documented.
  • Manage stocking and ordering of materials and components, maintaining accurate inventory records.
  • Coordinate with customer service, quality, and logistics teams to support product builds, RMAs, and shipments.
  • Create clear, accurate test reports, build records, and process documentation.
  • Maintain a safe, clean, ESD-controlled lab environment and follow all applicable safety procedures.
