About The Position

This is a National Guard Title 32 excepted-service position with the Alabama Air National Guard, part of the 187th Fighter Wing in Montgomery, Alabama. The role performs scheduled and unscheduled maintenance on complex, integrated aircraft electronic and avionics systems. Work includes inspecting, testing, troubleshooting, repairing, aligning, calibrating, modifying, and rebuilding systems and components, as well as replacing line-replaceable units and installing serviceable components in aircraft. The mechanic uses technical orders, schematics, wiring diagrams, engineering drawings, tools, and test equipment to diagnose faults and verify system operation. The position covers complex aircraft systems such as flight controls, navigation and instrumentation, communications, integrated countermeasures, displays, data systems, and related engine, hydraulic, and fuel-quantity indications. The mechanic evaluates system performance, analyzes maintenance data and equipment failures, determines whether procedures and technical data are adequate, and recommends tests, corrections, procedural changes, or equipment improvements. The role also documents discrepancies and maintenance actions in electronic records systems and may support chaff/flare handling, deployments, inspections, and exercises. This position requires membership in a compatible military assignment in the Alabama Air National Guard, and the selectee must wear the military uniform. Applicants not already in the Guard must be eligible for immediate membership. The position may require a probationary period, occasional work outside normal duty hours, and overtime. Additional duties may include emergency response, security, snow removal, munitions handling, aircraft servicing, heavy-equipment operation, facility maintenance, or disaster-response work.
