Electronic Integrated Systems Mechanic

Headquarters, Air Force Reserve Command•Homestead AFB, FL

About The Position

This Air Reserve Technician (ART) position is part of the regular career civil service and requires the employee to maintain active membership in the assigned Air Force Reserve unit. ARTs receive, on average, one weekend of military training per month. The work schedule is aligned to allow participation in unit training assemblies; regular assignments are ART duties, although some non-ART duties may be assigned, generally not exceeding 30 percent of total responsibilities. The position removes, installs, modifies, overhauls, maintains, troubleshoots, repairs, aligns, calibrates, and rebuilds multi-system avionics complexes made up of integrated electronic systems performing multiple major functions. The mechanic performs pretest, operational, and final testing of electronic systems, components, and subassemblies; follows security, safety, and tool-control procedures; and advises engineering personnel about the operational and maintenance effects of proposed technical orders and equipment modifications. The position also prepares and executes training plans, documents and recommends equipment or procedural improvements, reports hardware and software malfunctions, initiates material deficiency reports, and assists with design changes. Work is performed on assigned aircraft and may include shift work, uncommon tours of duty, emergency overtime, travel in military or contract aircraft for temporary duty maintenance or training, and maintenance support for other units. The work environment includes hangars, outdoor areas, and aircraft, sometimes in hazardous noise areas, with exposure to weather extremes, confined or awkward work areas, aircraft fluids and other hazardous substances, electrical hazards, RF radiation, lasers, moving machinery and vehicles, and other aircraft-maintenance hazards. Physical requirements include lifting and carrying up to 40 pounds, reaching, walking, standing, bending, climbing, and using hands and fingers. Vision, depth perception, color discrimination, and hearing capabilities are also specified, with reasonable accommodation noted where applicable.
