This role supports the design and manufacture of space flight hardware, adhering to NASA and industry standards for printed board design, manufacturing, assembly, and cable harness fabrication. You will work with senior Subject Matter Experts to develop and revise electronic hardware workmanship standards, perform gap analyses, and represent Amentum on NASA and Industry Workmanship Standards Committees. The goal is to develop in-depth knowledge of workmanship standards and their impact on NASA space flight hardware fabrication and assembly, eventually becoming a Subject Matter Expert in this field. You will also support the manufacturing laboratory by improving processes, ensuring compliance with standards, evaluating supplier documentation, assessing deviations and waivers, and providing inspection and design support for smaller projects. Vendor audits will also be part of your responsibilities.

Requirements

  • BS degree in mechanical, electrical, aerospace engineering or similar degree (i.e., physics, materials science) with a minimum of 15 years applicable experience OR MS degree in Electrical or Aerospace Engineering or related field with a minimum of 13 years applicable experience.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office products such as PowerPoint, Excel, and Word are required.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills are required.
  • Must be a US Citizen and have a STAR ID.

Nice To Haves

  • Knowledge of solder alloy testing, packaging reliability testing, advanced packaging, and the history of electronics packaging for aerospace applications is desired.
  • Personnel will have knowledge of NASA Standards and current state-of-the-art packaging technologies is desired.
  • Experience with NASA Design Specifications, and Standards is highly desired.
  • Ability to interpret test results and prepare technical reports and presentations for internal use, government publications, and relevant scientific publications is desired.

Responsibilities

  • Support the design and manufacture of space flight hardware, including NASA and Industry standards for printed board design, printed circuit board manufacture, circuit board assembly, and cable harness design and fabrication.
  • Work with senior Subject Matter Experts in workmanship to support the development and revision of electronic hardware workmanship standards used to manufacture NASA space flight hardware.
  • Test and/or perform analysis to validate Marshall Space Flight Center proposed new requirements.
  • Perform Gap Analyses between existing and proposed standards.
  • Serve as a Marshall Space Flight Center representative on NASA and Industry Workmanship Standards Committees.
  • Develop in-depth knowledge of workmanship standards and the relationship of these standards to fabrication and assembly of NASA Space Flight Hardware.
  • Discuss and adjudicate changes to standards individually, and with a large group of government and industry professionals.
  • Develop the knowledge and capabilities to eventually become a Subject Matter Expert in the Workmanship Standard field.
  • Support standards development meetings, including possible travel two or three times a year and occasional virtual meetings.
  • Support the manufacturing laboratory by improving manufacturing processes and ensure procedures comply with appropriate requirements standards.
  • Support projects in the evaluation of suppliers’ manufacturing documentation to ensure they satisfy project requirements.
  • Support projects in the evaluation of deviations, waivers, or other proposed departures from requirements to ensure the projects are aware of all risks involved when considering those departures.
  • Support smaller projects with inspection and/or design support. This may require training and certification to appropriate standards.
  • Support Vendor audits.
