About The Position

Design, development and testing of electrical and/or electronic components for use within machines and engine systems. Specifically, this role is in the Operator Controls & Electrical Components section of Cat Technology. The incumbent will support a variety of components with a focus on those with sophisticated firmware, extensive communications protocols, and deep integration into machine and engine systems.

Requirements

  • Requires a degree in an accredited Engineering, Computer Science, or Materials Science curriculum.
  • Effective Communications - Understanding of effective communication concepts, tools and techniques; ability to effectively transmit, receive, and accurately interpret ideas, information, and needs through the application of appropriate communication behaviors.
  • Relationship Management - Knowledge of relationship management techniques; ability to establish and maintain healthy working relationships with clients, vendors, and peers.
  • Technical Excellence - Knowledge of a given technology and various application methods; ability to develop and provide solutions to significant technical challenges.
  • Electronics Engineering - HTH: Knowledge of electronics engineering; ability to design, test and manufacture electronic circuits, components and devices.
  • Product Design - HTH: Knowledge of and the ability to utilize design tools (e.g. CAD) to convert customer and market requirements into a product design.
  • Reliability Management - HTH: Knowledge of reliability management; ability to utilize various tools, techniques, methodologies and metrics to meet and manage hardware product performance and reliability objectives.
  • Mechanical Engineering - MFG: Knowledge of mechanical engineering processes, techniques and methods; ability to design and implement machines and other mechanical devices that safely realize a desired objective or invention.
  • Troubleshooting Technical Problems - Knowledge of troubleshooting approaches, tools and techniques; ability to anticipate, detect and resolve technical problems in a manufacturing and product development environment.

Nice To Haves

  • A bachelor's degree in an accredited Engineering or Computer Science program
  • Experience with electronic components in heavy duty off highway applications
  • Solid experience with CAN/J1939 and other communication protocols
  • Competence in working with and managing a component supply base
  • Demonstrated ability to move component products from concept through production

Responsibilities

  • Overseeing compliance with development processes and regulations for electrical and electronic systems and components.
  • Investigating and troubleshooting all technical issues related to electrical and electronic systems and components.
  • Managing and negotiating with electrical and electronic equipment vendors for the development of systems and components.
  • Mentoring technicians and engineers in the development of electrical and electronic systems and components.
