About The Position

The purpose of this classification is to provide leadership and direct supervision for the Electronic Communications teams, ensuring efficient operations and compliance with technical standards. Oversee and coordinate complex installations and system integrations, enforces security protocols, drives optimization in infrastructure for relatability and scalability. Serves as the primary point of accountability for team performance, mentoring staff, managing resources, and aligning departmental initiatives with organizational goals.

Requirements

  • High School diploma or equivalent
  • Five (5) years of involving computer hardware, electronic maintenance, or audio/visual systems and components, or related working experience
  • Two (2) years of progressively responsible leadership experience
  • Must maintain a valid state issued driver’s license
  • Ability to perform basic electronic diagnostics and use related tools.
  • Ability to communicate verbally and in writing.
  • Demonstrates sufficient manual dexterity to operate machinery, equipment, tools, and to climb ladders or perform comparable physical activities.

Nice To Haves

  • Vocational/technical training in computer hardware/software operations, electronic maintenance or audio/visual systems and components preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Directs the work of the Electronic Communications Teams and provides input into performance evaluations, ensuring efficient operations and adherence to standards.
  • Determines work priorities for assigned teams.
  • Recommends the make-up of teams, who will lead the team, and who will work independent of the team.
  • Monitors quality of work and directs team and/or individual to correct work if needed.
  • Trains team leaders and/or individuals on how to accomplish complex tasks.
  • Plans, assigns, and monitors work activities, providing guidance and conducting quality inspections as needed.
  • Installs, diagnoses, troubleshoots, repairs, and maintains electronics in assigned area such as analog/digital audio and video systems, two-way communicators, route management, camera systems, and student tracking systems to ensure equipment is working within established parameters.
  • Installs, configures, troubleshoots, repairs, and maintains access control systems; this includes but is not limited to hardware and software components, magnetic locks, electric strikes, card readers, CCTV, and other components to ensure systems are up-to-date and compliant with security protocols and regulations.
  • Inspects and maintains equipment for the purpose of ensuring optimal performance.
  • Performs regular maintenance and testing on all equipment, hardware, and software components as scheduled and in accordance with manufacturer recommendations and/or department procedures.
  • Determines feasibility of repair versus replacement and recommends the purchase of new or special equipment when necessary.
  • Maintains bus video and/or building video systems including camera aim, focus, and date/time stamp to ensure accurate documentation of staff and student activities during transportation.

  • Maintains current knowledge of a variety of security systems and technologies; works with users to determine security needs.
  • Reads and interprets electronic schematics, blueprints, and technical drawings to ensure proper and efficient equipment repair.
  • Reports dangerous/hazardous situations, including equipment and vehicle damage, to department management.
  • Ensures that assigned equipment, parts, supplies, and tools are stored in a safe and secure environment while maintaining a clean and orderly workspace.
  • Programs systems to control access to premises, buildings, and other restricted areas.
  • Provides technical support, updates system databases and user accounts.
  • Monitors access control systems and responds to alarms and emergency situations when necessary.
  • Inspects and maintains equipment for the purpose of ensuring proper operations.
  • Identifies common data errors, line failures, communication interruptions, and equipment malfunctions; initiates appropriate action to correct errors, recover data, and obtain maintenance.
  • Maintains a variety of records (maintenance reports, repair records, etc.).
  • Maintains inventory of parts and supplies for the purpose of ensuring the availability of items as needed.
  • Assists in inventory/asset management.
  • Picks up damaged or malfunctioning equipment and coordinates shipment to the manufacturer as appropriate.
  • Operates a motor vehicle to perform other work activities.
  • Operates a computer and other technology devices to perform job tasks.
  • Attends meetings as needed.
  • Receives, prepares, or completes various forms, reports, correspondence, lists, procedures, training materials, spreadsheets, or other documents as required.
  • Complies with applicable district, state, and federal codes, laws, rules, regulations, standards, policies and procedures.
  • Adheres to the Teacher Code of Ethics as defined by Tennessee Law and Code of Professional Conduct as defined by Board Policy 5.6011.
