About The Position

The Electroneurodiagnostic Technician performs and maintains competency in electroencephalograms, both portable inpatient EEGs (at Waukesha ProHealth Care and Oconomowoc ProHealth Care Hospitals) and outpatient EEGs in the Neuroscience Center Clinic. This involves applying electrodes, checking equipment performance, calibrating testing equipment, and selecting electrode combinations based on the study. The department operates two service locations and handles 400-500 outpatient visits monthly, offering specialty services in pain management, stroke follow-up, Multiple Sclerosis, and concussion/brain injury. The department is staffed by physiatrists, psychologists, nurse practitioners, registered nurses, and clerical staff, with support from neurosurgeons, neurologists, and other medical specialists.

Requirements

  • High school Diploma, or equivalent
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) from the American Heart Association, or ability to obtain upon hire

Nice To Haves

  • Registered Polysomnography Technologist or Registered Electrodiagnostic Technician within one year of hire
  • Specialist expertise in neurodiagnostics preferred

Responsibilities

  • Performs and maintains competency in electroencephalograms (inpatient and outpatient).
  • Applies electrodes to the patient's head according to predetermined positions.
  • Checks the performance of electrodes and calibrates testing equipment.
  • Selects predetermined and special electrode combinations based on the individual case study.
  • Prepares patient for exam and performs exams and procedures.
  • Gathers comprehensive patient history, including neurological symptomatology and medications, from the patient, records, and family members.
  • Explains test procedures to the patient and family members.
  • Performs procedures according to laboratory standards and implements alternative methods or adjusts controls for optimal recordings.
  • Recognizes, documents, eliminates, or monitors patient or environmental artifact.
  • Troubleshoots equipment problems and repairs or reports to supervisor.
  • Learns and utilizes the EPIC charting system.
  • Performs various patient positioning and transporting duties, which require lifting and pushing/pulling, while utilizing proper technique.
