About The Position

The Electroneurodiagnostic Technician performs and maintains competency in electroencephalograms, both portable inpatient EEGs (at Waukesha ProHealth Care and Oconomowoc ProHealth Care Hospitals) and outpatient EEGs in the Neuroscience Center Clinic. This involves applying electrodes, checking equipment performance, calibrating and adjusting testing equipment, and selecting electrode combinations based on the study. Other responsibilities include preparing patients for exams, gathering patient history and relevant information, explaining procedures, performing exams according to laboratory standards, implementing alternative methods for optimal recordings, recognizing and managing artifact, troubleshooting equipment, and performing patient positioning and transporting duties.

Requirements

  • High school Diploma, or equivalent
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) from the American Heart Association, or ability to obtain upon hire
  • Experience performing EEGs.
  • Ability to learn EPIC charting system.

Nice To Haves

  • Registered Polysomnography Technologist or Registered Electrodiagnostic Technician within one year of hire
  • Specialist expertise in neurodiagnostics

Responsibilities

  • Performs and maintains competency in electroencephalograms (inpatient and outpatient).
  • Applies electrodes on predetermined positions on the patient's head.
  • Checks the performance of the electrodes.
  • Calibrates and adjusts the testing equipment.
  • Selects predetermined and special electrode combinations dependent on the individual case under study.
  • Prepares patient for exam and performs exams and procedures.
  • Gathers a comprehensive patient history, appropriate information from patient, patient's records and family members to include neurological symptomatology and medications.
  • Explains test procedures to patient and family members.
  • Performs procedures according to the laboratory standards and implements alternative methods and/or adjusts controls to obtain optimal recordings.
  • Recognizes patient or environmental artifact. Documents, eliminates or takes proper measure to monitor the artifact.
  • Troubleshoots equipment problems and repairs or reports to supervisor immediately.
  • Learns EPIC charting system.
  • Performs various patient positioning and transporting duties, which require lifting and pushing/pulling, while utilizing proper technique.
