Electron Optics Designer

ASML•San Jose, CA

About The Position

ASML US designs, develops, integrates, markets, and services lithography and e-Beam machines used by leading chipmakers to produce smaller, more powerful microchips. The Electron Optics Designer designs electron-optics systems and submodules for advanced e-Beam inspection and metrology tools. The role covers design and development from concept through release for high-volume manufacturing, as well as testing, analysis, integration, troubleshooting, and manufacturing transition. The position also contributes to new technology development and future electron-optics concepts.

Requirements

  • At least a master's degree; a Ph.D. is acceptable with fewer years of experience.
  • A major in physics, optics, materials, or engineering and science fields such as mechanical or semiconductor-related disciplines is preferred.
  • Self-driven and innovative approach.
  • Good understanding of physics and mechanics, with strong problem-analysis and solution-development abilities.
  • Logical and reasonable approach to resolving issues.
  • Strong hands-on and troubleshooting skills.
  • Ability to understand and learn new skills and knowledge.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • At least 2 years of applicable relevant experience on a semiconductor equipment mechanical product is desired.

Nice To Haves

  • Proficiency in 3D modeling and 2D detailed drawings using SolidWorks and NX.
  • Experience designing parts and assemblies for ultra-high-vacuum environments.
  • Experience designing parts and assemblies for high-voltage environments.
  • Knowledge of materials and material selection, manufacturing, and cleaning processes for electron-beam inspection system components.
  • Ability to perform structural and thermal finite-element analysis using NX or COMSOL.
  • Experience designing, fabricating, and testing mechanical or electromechanical modules and related system interfaces for capital-equipment tools.
  • Experience with product lifecycle management tools, including Siemens TCE.
  • Teamwork spirit.

Responsibilities

  • Design electron-optics modules and subsystems for e-Beam inspection tools, from concept through release for high-volume manufacturing.
  • Create design documentation from system to module level, including specifications, principles, details, and interfaces in accordance with ASML design processes.
  • Perform simulations and calculations for electron-optics module design, including thermal, vacuum, high-voltage, dynamics, and mechanical finite-element analysis.
  • Lead design reviews, error-budget development, risk assessment and mitigation, experiments, verification, and validation.
  • Present and document concepts, designs, and test results.
  • Work with vendors and consultants to develop, analyze, and fabricate components and subassemblies.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve issues during parts and module fabrication.
  • Participate in integration and testing of electron-optics systems and subsystems, troubleshooting and verifying designs to ensure implementation quality.
  • Transfer designs to manufacturing by providing technical process documentation and supporting the transition to mass production.
  • Study and develop new technologies and concepts for future electron-optics modules.
  • Design experiments to investigate root causes of critical eSource issues.
