About The Position

The Boeing Electromagnetic Effects (E3) Group is hiring engineers at Experienced (Level 2), Career (Level 3), and Expert (Level 4) levels. The successful candidate will be based in the Puget Sound region in Everett, Washington, and support Boeing Defense, Space & Security commercial-derivative aircraft programs, including the U.S. KC-46A tanker. The engineer will develop and validate Electromagnetic Environmental Effects (E3) requirements and architectures to integrate complex components and subsystems into higher-level platforms. E3 environments include electromagnetic interference (EMI), lightning, high-intensity radiated fields (HIRF), precipitation static (P-static), nuclear electromagnetic pulse (EMP), and related environments. The role includes performing trade studies, modeling, simulations, and other analyses to predict component, interconnect, and system performance and optimize designs for E3 performance. The engineer works to achieve electromagnetic compatibility (EMC) of electronics, wiring, and structure, with minimal direction at higher levels. The role interfaces with manufacturing teams and suppliers on complex E3 design aspects, reviews supplier test plans and reports, supports project planning, and collaborates across engineering disciplines to assess changes and recommend mitigations. Depending on level and assignment, responsibilities may also include test automation, aircraft-level E3 testing, EMI problem resolution, and presenting technical results. The position is primarily first shift, with possible additional shift requirements to support program objectives. It requires willingness to travel up to 25% as needed. Candidates must be able to obtain a U.S. Security Clearance; U.S. citizenship is required for that clearance, and an interim and/or final U.S. Secret clearance is required after starting. The role also requires compliance with U.S. export control requirements, for which a U.S. Person is required. Boeing does not sponsor applicants for employment visa status. Relocation assistance is available based on candidate eligibility. This is a SPEEA union-represented position and is not contingent upon program award.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering focused on Electrical, Mechanical, or Aeronautical Engineering, Computer Science, Data Science, Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, or non-U.S. equivalent qualifications directly related to the work statement.
  • Familiarity with electromagnetic concepts such as RF isolation, shielding, grounding, and filtering.
  • Willingness to travel up to 25% as required.
  • Ability to obtain a U.S. Security Clearance; U.S. citizenship is required by the U.S. Government for this clearance.
  • U.S. Person status, as defined by 22 C.F.R. §120.62, is required to meet U.S. export control compliance requirements.
  • An interim and/or final U.S. Secret clearance is required post-start.
  • Successful candidates must satisfy Boeing’s Conflict of Interest assessment process.

Nice To Haves

  • Experienced (Level 2): 2 or more years of related work experience.
  • Career (Level 3): 5 or more years of related work experience.
  • Expert (Level 4): 7 or more years of related work experience in the preferred qualifications; the typical education/experience description states 9 or more years.
  • ABET-accredited bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or an advanced degree (M.S./Ph.D.) in Electrical Engineering.
  • Active U.S. Security Clearance.
  • Prior experience in the defense or aerospace industries.
  • Experience with MIL-STD-461, MIL-STD-464, and/or DO-160 EMI/EMC standards.
  • Prior experience with Aerospace Electromagnetic Environmental Effects (E3).
  • Experience with EMI qualification testing for line-replaceable units (LRUs) and at system level.
  • Familiarity with electrical bonding best practices to support E3 compliance.
  • Foundation in RF systems and/or computational E3 analysis tools.

Responsibilities

  • Perform trade studies, modeling, simulation, and other analyses to predict component, interconnect, and system performance and optimize designs for E3 performance.
  • Work to achieve electromagnetic compatibility (EMC) of electronics, wiring, and structure; higher-level positions perform this work with minimal direction.
  • Interface with manufacturing and suppliers on complex E3 design aspects to assure system-level compatibility, and identify and report achievements and issues to program management and customers.
  • Review supplier test plans and test reports for technical correctness, identify deficiencies, and coordinate corrective actions.
  • Support project management by contributing to work statements, budgets, schedules, and design and review inputs.
  • Collaborate with engineering disciplines and suppliers to assess equipment changes, determine impacts on electromagnetic characteristics, and recommend mitigations.
  • As applicable, develop and implement test automation for aircraft modifications.
  • Apply EMI engineering methods to document and resolve complex technical problems.
  • Apply conversion, correction, and antenna factors to EMI/EMC analyses and tests.
  • Participate on cross-functional teams and present technical results in internal and external reviews.
  • Process engineering data into tables, graphs, and report deliverables.
  • Support or conduct aircraft-level E3 testing.

Benefits

  • Competitive base pay and variable compensation opportunities.
  • Eligible employees may enroll in health insurance, flexible spending accounts, health savings accounts, retirement savings plans, life and disability insurance programs, and programs providing paid and unpaid time away from work.
  • Relocation assistance based on candidate eligibility.
