About The Position

Under direction, provides a variety of direct and indirect cardiovascular services and diagnostic tests in inpatient and outpatient settings. Incumbents follow clearly established procedures to assist licensed personnel and medical staff in inpatient and outpatient settings; including performing general clerical functions, caring for the patient’s personal, safety and comfort and completing specified diagnostic tests. This is an extra-help employment position with a limited term of up to 9 months. Health Benefits coverage may be offered. Shift Differentials vary per classification.

Requirements

  • Successful completion of an accredited program for medical assisting, licensed vocational nursing OR one (1) year of an education program leading to an Associate’s Degree OR Baccalaureate degree in Nursing, OR two (2) years of experience as an electrocardiogram technician in an outpatient setting or an acute care facility.
  • Appointees not possessing the American Heart Association Provider Basic Life Support (BLS) card at time of hire must successfully complete appropriate training and qualify for the RQI Provider certification within 60 days of employment.
  • Employees must maintain all health requirements designated by Kern Medical.
  • Depending on assignment incumbents may be required to possess and maintain specific certificates of competency as a condition of employment.
  • Basic Dysrhythmia certification within six months of hire.
  • Ability to perform non-professional nursing care; perform cardiovascular diagnostic tests; read and record medical terminology and metric measurement, maintain medical records, follow oral and written instructions; and maintain effective relations which medical staff and the public; stand, bed, squat, kneel, push and pull throughout the majority of the work day; lift, carry, partially carry, or fully support patients while transferring to and from a bed, wheelchair, or gurney, or while walking

Responsibilities

  • Assists with patient observation and care; checks and records vital signs; Adheres to isolation precautions/practices, medical asepsis and infection control, observes oxygen precautions; Transports patients as needed for admission, discharge, and procedures; Performs general clerical duties; operates a variety of office equipment; Answers telephones and provides basic information to patients and/or other interested parties; Utilizes principles of teaching/learning to ensure client understanding of health; provides teaching as directed by the provider; Interacts in a professional manner, communicates directly, and understands scope of practice for self and others; Ensures patients receive timely follow up care as requested by the provider; Communicates effectively with staff, patients and families; Employs established safety and infection control principles; Cross trains to perform the duties of the support staff; Successfully completes the basic dysrhythmia course and reviews EKGs and recognizes cardiac arrhythmias for presentation to the provider for interpretation; Performs the duties/responsibilities of the office registration; support staff by scheduling patients, registering patients, completing insurance verification, referrals, authorizations and charge entry; Completes patient appointment confirmations and follows up with patients who do not show up for their appointments; Provides (or assists with the provision of) clinical services within cardiology such as Holter monitoring, Event recorders, Stress testing, Lexiscans and other service areas as needed – within scope of training/education; Performs Holter and Event/Loop recorder hook up; Performs Holter /Event recorder scanning and reporting; Performs ABI testing and submits to the provider for interpretation
  • Performs other job-related duties as required.
