About The Position

The Electro-Mechanical Maintenance Technician is responsible for maintaining, troubleshooting, repairing, and improving packaging, warehouse, material-handling, and facility equipment to support safe, reliable, and efficient operations. This role performs preventive, predictive, and corrective maintenance on mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, hydraulic, and electro-mechanical systems; responds to equipment breakdowns; and partners with Operations to minimize downtime and improve equipment reliability. The position supports packaging and logistics equipment and is not intended to maintain extrusion, compounding, or chemical-processing systems.

Requirements

  • Minimum three (3) years of industrial maintenance experience required.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of mechanical systems, industrial electrical systems, pneumatics, hydraulics, conveyors, automated packaging equipment, VFDs, sensors, and control circuits required.
  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Ability to work the assigned shift and adjust schedule based on operational requirements.
  • Ability to work overtime, weekends, holidays, alternate shifts, and respond to after-hours callouts as required.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team while equipment is operating or during planned downtime.
  • Must be able to lift and carry up to 55 pounds.
  • Must be able to climb straight and incline ladders, stairs, access elevated platforms and mezzanines, and work around industrial machinery.
  • Must have adequate near, distance, depth, peripheral, and color vision to read schematics, use test equipment, distinguish wiring colors, and identify labels and safety indicators.
  • Must be able to hear and respond to audible alarms and verbal communications in an industrial environment.
  • Must be able to work in awkward positions for limited periods while safely performing maintenance and repairs.
  • Must be able to wear required PPE, including safety footwear, eye and hearing protection, gloves, hard hat, fall protection, and arc-rated PPE when required.
  • Must be able to read, write, and speak English.

Nice To Haves

  • Technical certificate, vocational training, apprenticeship, or associate degree in industrial maintenance, electrical technology, mechatronics, instrumentation, or a related field preferred.
  • Experience in packaging, resin handling, warehousing, logistics, distribution, or material-handling operations preferred.
  • Basic PLC diagnostic experience preferred.
  • Valid driver’s license may be required based on assigned duties.
  • Electrical, industrial maintenance, mechatronics, welding, forklift, aerial-lift, or related technical certifications are preferred.
  • Bilingual English-Spanish preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Perform preventive, predictive, and corrective maintenance on packaging lines, bagging systems, conveyors, palletizers, stretch wrappers, labeling systems, scales, scanners, cameras, and related material-handling equipment.
  • Troubleshoot and repair mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, hydraulic, and electro-mechanical equipment failures using appropriate test instruments, tools, technical manuals, and diagnostic methods.
  • Diagnose and repair motors, gearboxes, bearings, chains, belts, couplings, sensors, photo eyes, proximity switches, relays, contactors, solenoid valves, control devices, and variable frequency drives (VFDs).
  • Interpret electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, mechanical drawings, equipment manuals, and hydraulic and pneumatic diagrams.
  • Perform basic PLC and HMI diagnostics to identify faults, verify inputs and outputs, and support equipment recovery.
  • Escalate programming or controls changes in accordance with site procedures and authorization levels.
  • Respond to equipment breakdowns and restore equipment to safe operating condition while communicating status and expected completion to the appropriate Operations and Maintenance contacts.
  • Complete scheduled inspections and preventive maintenance work orders; accurately document findings, repairs, labor, parts used, follow-up needs, and equipment history in the computerized maintenance management system (CMMS).
  • Inspect guards, panels, emergency stops, alarms, and other machine safety devices and report or correct deficiencies in accordance with site procedures.
  • Assist with equipment installation, setup, alignment, modification, testing, startup, and continuous-improvement projects.
  • Support facility and warehouse equipment, which may include dock doors, dock levelers, overhead doors, compressed-air systems, lifting equipment, battery-charging equipment, and related building systems.
  • Use safe troubleshooting practices and comply with Lockout/Tagout (LOTO), electrical safety, hot-work, work-at-height, and other applicable permits and procedures.
  • Coordinate as directed with equipment manufacturers, vendors, and contractors during service work, repairs, and installation activities.
  • Identify required spare parts and materials; communicate inventory needs and help maintain an orderly maintenance shop, tools, and parts-storage areas.
  • Participate in root-cause reviews and recommend practical changes to reduce recurring failures, improve maintainability, and increase equipment reliability.
  • Support cross-training and share technical knowledge with other maintenance and operations team members.
  • Maintain accurate shift handoff communication and participate in maintenance, safety, and operational meetings as assigned.
  • Respond to callouts, overtime, weekends, holidays, or alternate shifts as required by operational needs.
