About The Position

We are seeking a hands-on Electro-Mechanical Technician to support the manufacturing, assembly, testing, and qualification of High Temperature Superconducting (HTS) magnets and other fusion energy related technologies. This role will be responsible for cable production, coil and magnet assembly, electrical and mechanical testing, troubleshooting, and supporting R&D and production activities. The ideal candidate combines strong electrical and mechanical aptitude with experience in precision manufacturing, instrumentation, testing, and laboratory or production environments. Experience with superconducting magnets, cryogenic systems, vacuum systems, or advanced manufacturing technologies is highly desirable.

Requirements

  • Diploma or Technical Certificate in: Electrical Engineering Technology, Electronics Engineering Technology, Electro-Mechanical Technology, Mechatronics, Mechanical Engineering Technology, Or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • 3+ years of hands-on experience in manufacturing, assembly, testing, or laboratory environments.
  • Ability to read electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, and mechanical drawings.
  • Experience using electrical test and measurement equipment.
  • Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and data recording systems.
  • Ability to work safely around electrical and mechanical equipment.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with superconducting magnets, HTS technology, MRI systems, particle accelerators, fusion systems, or other advanced magnet technologies.
  • Experience with cryogenic systems (liquid nitrogen, liquid helium, cryocoolers).
  • Experience operating vacuum systems.
  • Familiarity with PLCs, DAQ systems, LabVIEW, or automated test equipment.
  • Experience in aerospace, clean technology, medical devices, semiconductor, or advanced manufacturing industries.
  • Experience with soldering, cable termination, and precision assembly.
  • Knowledge of Lean Manufacturing and continuous improvement methodologies.

Responsibilities

  • Fabricate, process, and prepare HTS cables and conductors according to engineering specifications.
  • Perform conductor handling, insulation application, winding preparation, and related manufacturing activities.
  • Maintain production records, work instructions, and quality documentation.
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives for cable manufacturing processes.
  • Assemble electro-mechanical components, coils, and magnet systems.
  • Perform precision mechanical assembly, fastening, bonding, and integration of subassemblies.
  • Install sensors, instrumentation, wiring harnesses, current leads, and associated hardware.
  • Interpret engineering drawings, schematics, assembly procedures, and bills of materials.
  • Execute electrical, mechanical, and functional testing of cables, coils, and magnet assemblies.
  • Operate test equipment including: Digital multimeters, Oscilloscopes, Power supplies, Data acquisition systems, Temperature and pressure monitoring systems.
  • Collect, analyze, and document test results.
  • Investigate failures and support root cause analysis activities.
  • Support operation of cryogenic test systems and associated infrastructure.
  • Assist with installation and maintenance of cooling, vacuum, and instrumentation systems.
  • Follow safety procedures for high voltage, high current, cryogenic fluids, and energized equipment.
  • Maintain laboratory equipment, tools, and test fixtures.
  • Maintain accurate manufacturing and test records.
  • Support non-conformance investigations and corrective actions.
  • Ensure compliance with quality, safety, and operational procedures.
  • Contribute to development and improvement of manufacturing and test procedures.
