Electro-Mechanical Assembler

PromegaMadison, WI
Onsite

About The Position

Instrument Assembly is a five-person precision manufacturing team building six active scientific instrument lines for Promega customers worldwide. The team is small, highly skilled, and cross-trained across multiple product families. We support not only production but also Instrument R&D prototype builds and Instrument Service. Since relocating to Madison from Sunnyvale, California, the team has maintained zero instrument back orders due to production or staffing issues — a track record we take pride in. You will build precision scientific instruments from sub-assembly through final build, following documented work instructions and maintaining qualification records in ETQ. You will cross-train across multiple production lines and contribute to a team that values technical depth, attention to detail, and consistent quality output.

Requirements

  • High School diploma or proven work experience that ensures you are ready to be successful in this role.
  • Minimum of 1-3 years’ production manufacturing assembly-related experience.
  • Ability to learn quickly and demonstrated attention to detail. Problem solver and solution oriented.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with technical and operational manufacturing process details.
  • Knowledge of the principles, methods, and techniques used in the fabrication of electro-mechanical components and assemblies.
  • Solid knowledge of equipment, systems, and techniques appropriate for debugging mechanical and electrical systems.
  • Experience with medical device or instrumentation production manufacturing assembly.
  • Experience in electro-mechanical testing.
  • Knowledge of Lean Manufacturing processes and associated tools.
  • Knowledge of SAP (preferred but not mandatory).

Responsibilities

  • Independently produce high-quality, complex electro-mechanical optical instruments, including mechanical assembly, alignment of motors, gears, and optical components using custom fixtures, basic hand tools, and soldering. Must be cross trained to independently produce at least 50% of the instrument types manufactured.
  • Perform basic troubleshooting on electro-mechanical sub-assemblies.
  • Assure system and product quality by testing sub-assemblies to confirm fabrication, assembly, and installation processes. Document actions by completing production and quality forms.
  • Identify opportunities for operational improvements and participate in projects or process improvements to achieve overall company objectives for cost, quality, delivery, and safety.
  • Provide Design for Manufacturability feedback to the engineering team.
  • Collaborate with other functions to resolve manufacturing problems and develop product design improvements.
  • Report material discrepancies to the appropriate personnel in a timely manner.
  • Maintain a clean and organized work area to facilitate manufacturing functions.
  • Participate in PFMEA (Process Failure Mode and Effects Analysis) updates each year.
  • Utilize various mechanical and electrical test equipment.
