About The Position

Amentum is NASA’s largest engineering solutions provider working together with NASA at centers across the United States. We have an exciting opportunity for an Electro-Mech Technician III join our team with the Operations & Test Division. This is a JETS II CBA position with Amentum. The Electro-Mech Technician III will perform various duties in the design, assembly, installation, testing, calibration, operation, evaluation, modification, and repair of devices used in the conversion of electrical signals to mechanical, hydraulic or pneumatic outputs and the sensors which convert mechanical, thermal and pressure measurements to electrical signals where primary methods, procedures, and standards have been determined. This role requires knowledge of laboratory techniques, methods, and equipment, and involves performing maintenance and operation of electrical, hydraulic, thermal, pneumatic, and other types of mechanical equipment in assigned laboratories or work areas. The technician will research, document, acquire parts, repair, and calibrate electro-mechanical devices and systems, and determine and develop methods, procedures, and laboratory equipment required to fulfill assignments and achieve prescribed objectives. Troubleshooting and investigative services for malfunctioning or failed pneumatic, hydraulic, pressure, thermal or other electro—mechanical measuring devices, servo systems or equipment employing energy conversion will be performed, along with repair and calibration. The role also includes installing, checking out and operating equipment, providing preventative maintenance, and performing periodic readings and monitoring of various facility systems. The technician will operate and perform scheduled and unscheduled maintenance of equipment and systems, record data, and may be assisted by lower level technicians. They will assemble, operate, and disassemble test equipment and dispose of components as defined by procedures, adhering to operating procedures, policies, and protocols for equipment use and safety. Technical direction may be provided to other technicians. The role involves developing, designing, fabricating, modifying, repairing, and assembling unique prototype components using machining tools. Performing assigned tasks safely and maintaining a clean working environment are critical. Standard equipment and instruments, including hand-held power tools, meters, and oscilloscopes, will be operated. Teamwork is essential, and related duties as required will be performed.

Requirements

Able to read and interpret basic technical drawings and schematics of complex laboratory and facility systems.
Basic knowledge with the process of assembling and installing mechanical and electrical components.
Trouble-shooting and problem solving capability.
High School diploma or equivalent and 12 years of experience in related field.
Requires proficient knowledge of laboratory techniques, methods and equipment; applies advanced technical knowledge.
Able to operate and handle basic hand-held and/or power tools.
Must be a non-smoker to meet Class 10 Cleanroom requirements (Science Department only)
Able to comprehend basic technical terminology and communicate effectively with other employees and team members.

Regular attendance in accordance with established work schedule is critical.
Ability to work outside normal schedule and adjust schedule to meet peak periods and surge requirements.

Nice To Haves

Knowledge of cryogenics and high-pressure systems.
Work experience with metals, composites, and materials such as stainless steel, aluminum, titanium, copper, and Teflon.
Ability to organize and prioritize tasks.
Familiar with cleanroom protocols and contamination control.
Experience with machining tools (e.g., lathe, mill, band saw, etc.).
Knowledge and/or familiarity with Ultra-Pure Water (UPW) and reverse osmosis systems.
Two year technical degree.

Responsibilities

Design, assemble, install, test, calibrate, operate, evaluate, modify, and repair devices used in the conversion of electrical signals to and from mechanical, hydraulic, or pneumatic systems.
Perform maintenance and operation of electrical, hydraulic, thermal, pneumatic, and other types of mechanical equipment in assigned laboratories or work areas, including researching, documenting, acquiring parts, repairing, and calibration electro-mechanical devices and systems.
Determine and develop methods, procedures, and laboratory equipment required to fulfill assignments and achieve prescribed objectives.
Perform all maintenance and operation functions associated with the electrical, hydraulic, pneumatic and other types of mechanical equipment in assigned laboratory or work area.
Perform troubleshooting and investigative services for malfunctioning or failed pneumatic, hydraulic, pressure, thermal or other electro—mechanical measuring devices, servo systems or equipment employing energy conversion; repair and calibrates such equipment through personal knowledge and skills used in conjunction with applicable equipment manuals and checkout procedures.
Install, check out and operate equipment in assigned laboratory or work area and provides preventative maintenance including routine and special purging and cleaning when a system, equipment or device requires it.
Operate and perform scheduled and unscheduled maintenance of equipment and systems.
Perform periodic readings and monitoring of various facility systems from variety of sources; gauges, sensors, hand held devices, telemetry data to distributive control systems, etc. and record data in written and/or electronic format in hand-held portable and/or desktop computer systems.
Assemble, operate, and disassemble test equipment and properly dispose of components as defined by procedures.
Adhere to written or standardized operating procedures, policies, and protocols for use of lab equipment and to conduct all other operation, maintenance, calibration, and safety related activities as defined for specific work area.
Provide technical direction to other technicians.
Develop, design, fabricate, modify, repair, and assemble unique prototype components using machining tools (e.g., lathes, mills, drill press, etc.).
Perform assigned task in a safe manner and maintain a clean working environment by complying with all safety procedures and company policies.
Operate standard equipment and/or instruments including hand-held power tools, meters, and oscilloscopes.
