About The Position

Amentum is seeking an Electro-Mech Technician III to join their Operations & Test Division. This role involves performing various duties related to the design, assembly, installation, testing, calibration, operation, evaluation, modification, and repair of electro-mechanical devices and systems. The technician will work with systems that convert electrical signals to mechanical, hydraulic, or pneumatic outputs, as well as sensors that convert mechanical, thermal, and pressure measurements to electrical signals. The position requires knowledge of laboratory techniques, methods, and equipment, and involves maintenance and operation of electrical, hydraulic, thermal, pneumatic, and other mechanical equipment. The technician will also be responsible for troubleshooting and repairing malfunctioning devices, installing and operating equipment, performing preventative maintenance, and monitoring facility systems. This role may involve providing technical direction to lower-level technicians and working under general supervision. The technician will also be responsible for assembling, operating, and disassembling test equipment, adhering to operating procedures, and fabricating unique prototype components using machining tools. Safety and maintaining a clean working environment are paramount. The role requires working in a team environment and performing related duties as needed.

Requirements

  • Able to read and interpret basic technical drawings and schematics of complex laboratory and facility systems.
  • Basic knowledge with the process of assembling and installing mechanical and electrical components.
  • Trouble-shooting and problem solving capability.
  • High School diploma or equivalent and 12 years of experience in related field.
  • Proficient knowledge of laboratory techniques, methods and equipment; applies advanced technical knowledge.
  • Able to operate and handle basic hand-held and/or power tools.
  • Must be a non-smoker to meet Class 10 Cleanroom requirements (Science Department only).
  • Able to comprehend basic technical terminology and communicate effectively with other employees and team members.
  • Able to visualize and solve practical problems.
  • Requires constant: Climbing and maintaining balance on ladders, scaffolds, structures, etc. above and below ground level.
  • Requires constant: Reaching for, handling, and manipulating objects and materials in all directions.
  • Requires constant: Coordinating eyes, hands, and fingers to operate tools and equipment.
  • Requires constant: Seeing and hearing with or without correction.
  • Requires constant: Crawling and kneeling from 1 to 30 minutes at a time.

  • Requires Frequent: Carrying up to 40 pounds for 20 yards from ground level, from waist level and overhead (occasional).

  • Operates personal computer and related computer peripheral equipment to maintain and update database logs and/or records and print documents.
  • Ability to use Microsoft Office and Windows Operating System.
  • Ability to use two-way radio.
  • Regular attendance in accordance with established work schedule is critical.
  • Ability to work outside normal schedule and adjust schedule to meet peak periods and surge requirements.
  • Must be able to work in a team atmosphere.

  • Grooming and dress must be appropriate for the position and must not impose a safety risk/hazard to the employee or others.

Nice To Haves

  • Knowledge of cryogenics and high-pressure systems.
  • Work experience with metals, composites, and materials such as stainless steel, aluminum, titanium, copper, and Teflon.
  • Ability to organize and prioritize tasks.
  • Familiar with cleanroom protocols and contamination control.
  • Experience with machining tools (e.g., lathe, mill, band saw, etc.).
  • Knowledge and/or familiarity with Ultra-Pure Water (UPW) and reverse osmosis systems.
  • Two year technical degree.

Responsibilities

  • Design, assemble, install, test, calibrate, operate, evaluate, modify, and repair devices used in the conversion of electrical signals to and from mechanical, hydraulic, or pneumatic systems.
  • Perform maintenance and operation of electrical, hydraulic, thermal, pneumatic, and other types of mechanical equipment in assigned laboratories or work areas.
  • Research, document, acquire parts, repair, and calibrate electro-mechanical devices and systems.
  • Determine and develop methods, procedures, and laboratory equipment required to fulfill assignments and achieve prescribed objectives.
  • Perform troubleshooting and investigative services for malfunctioning or failed pneumatic, hydraulic, pressure, thermal or other electro-mechanical measuring devices, servo systems or equipment employing energy conversion.
  • Repair and calibrate such equipment through personal knowledge and skills used in conjunction with applicable equipment manuals and checkout procedures.
  • Install, check out and operate equipment in assigned laboratory or work area and provides preventative maintenance including routine and special purging and cleaning when a system, equipment or device requires it.
  • Operate and perform scheduled and unscheduled maintenance of equipment and systems.
  • Perform periodic readings and monitoring of various facility systems from a variety of sources; gauges, sensors, hand-held devices, telemetry data to distributive control systems, etc. and record data in written and/or electronic format in hand-held portable and/or desktop computer systems.
  • Assemble, operate, and disassemble test equipment and properly dispose of components as defined by procedures.
  • Adhere to written or standardized operating procedures, policies, and protocols for use of lab equipment and to conduct all other operation, maintenance, calibration, and safety related activities as defined for specific work area.
  • Provide technical direction to other technicians.
  • Develop, design, fabricate, modify, repair, and assemble unique prototype components using machining tools (e.g., lathes, mills, drill press, etc.).
  • Perform assigned task in a safe manner and maintain a clean working environment by complying with all safety procedures and company policies.
  • Operate standard equipment and/or instruments including hand-held power tools, meters, and oscilloscopes.
  • Work in a team environment.
  • Perform related duties as required.
