About The Position

Responsible for maintenance, repair, and installation of electrical needs for the university. This role involves completing scheduled work, maintaining positive relationships with university personnel, observing and reporting maintenance needs, and installing and monitoring electrical equipment. The electrician will also troubleshoot and repair electrical systems, operate medium voltage switchgear, and perform other facility services maintenance duties as assigned. A willingness to participate in on-call rotation and special event setup is also required.

Requirements

  • Knowledge and observance of safety precautions.
  • Knowledge of electricity and its fundamentals to include high and low voltage.
  • Knowledge of controls and control systems, lighting, and power wiring.
  • Use and care of electrician’s hand tools, meters, and equipment.
  • Ability to prepare and check layouts and make sketches.
  • Possess a current & valid driver license and insurable under the university’s auto insurance carrier.
  • Ability to interpret instructions, drawings, and specifications.
  • Ability to prepare written reports and keep records.
  • Ability to perform trouble shooting on electrical systems, in HVAC equipment and refrigeration.
  • Individuals must be physically able to perform efficiently the duties of the position.
  • Knowledge of National Electrical Code, NFPA-70E, OSHA 10-30, and the National Electrical Safety Code.
  • High School Diploma or GED; Trade or Vocational School.
  • At least 5 year’s experience in the electrical trade.
  • Journeyman level or above.

Responsibilities

  • Complete scheduled work as assigned within established guidelines.
  • Maintain positive relationships and attitude with facility services staff and university personnel.
  • Observe maintenance needs and report them to the supervisor or lead position.
  • Install and monitor performance of installed electrical equipment for hazards, adjustments, or replacement.
  • Repair, install, replace, and test electrical circuits, equipment, and appliances using appropriate tools and testing instruments.
  • Lead, guide, and/or train other electricians in applicable procedures and techniques.
  • Operate and maintain medium voltage switchgear and controls; may repair and maintain motor control centers and programmable logic controls.
  • Troubleshoot and repair primary distribution system malfunctions such as ground fault tracing and cable replacement.
  • Plan electrical primary system extensions to power secondary systems.
  • May perform work of lower level electricians.
  • Use ladders and lifts to complete assigned tasks.
  • Ensure proper care in the use and maintenance of equipment and supplies.
  • Promote continuous improvement of workplace safety and environmental practices.
  • Read, employ, and update electrical panel schedules and building or system blueprints.
  • Perform other facility services maintenance duties as assigned.
  • Participate in the on-call rotation and special event setup.
