About The Position

To help maintain the physical school plant in a condition of operating excellence so that full educational use of it may be made at all times. This role assumes primary responsibility for the safe condition of electric elements in the facilities owned or operated by the district. The Electrician will instruct custodians and maintenance workers on proper methods and tool usage in electrical repair work, and will be responsible for ordering and accounting for materials and labor. The position ensures adherence to all safety and code requirements from the State, local, and Board of Education guidelines, and performs general electrical maintenance and some new installations. Recommendations for supplies and equipment purchases are made, and an inventory of district-owned tools, equipment, hardware, materials, and supplies is maintained. The Electrician completes assigned routine and planned maintenance within reasonable timeframes and communicates regularly with the Foreman regarding workload. Driving a company vehicle within the District may be required, along with performing other assigned duties by the Supervisor.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED).
  • Ability to work in a constructive mode.
  • Two years’ experience in electrical maintenance work.
  • Thorough knowledge of electrical maintenance and construction.
  • Valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record.
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, control drawings, and procedure manuals.
  • Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
  • Ability to speak effectively.
  • Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume.
  • Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.
  • Ability to interpret and apply common sense understanding in carrying out instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram or schedule form.
  • Ability to analyze information and use logic to address work related issues and problems.
  • Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.
  • Ability to pass a district written and physical test.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, staff and the community.
  • Ability to perform duties with awareness of all district requirements and Board of Education policies.
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to stand, walk; use hands and fingers to handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls; and talk or hear.
  • The employee frequently is required to reach with hands and arms.
  • The employee is occasionally required to sit.
  • The employee frequently must squat, stoop or kneel, reach above the head and reach forward.
  • The employee continuously uses hand strength to grasp tools and climbs on to ladders.
  • The employee will frequently bend or twist at the neck and trunk more than the average person while performing the duties of this job.
  • The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds such as a toolbox.
  • Occasionally the employee will lift and/or move up to 90 lbs. such as motors and compressors.
  • The employee will sometimes push/pull items such as tables, scaffolds, and air compressors.
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee regularly works indoors and outdoors.
  • The employee will work near or with moving mechanical equipment.
  • The employee may occasionally work with toxic or caustic chemicals such as petroleum products, degreasers, and sprays and non-household dust.
  • The employee must be able to meet deadlines with severe time constraints.
  • Frequently the employee will work alone and occasionally will work irregular or extended hours.
  • The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate and occasionally will work in a loud area.

Responsibilities

  • Assumes primary responsibility for the safe condition of electric elements in the facilities owned or operated by the district.
  • Instructs custodians and maintenance workers on proper methods of procedure and proper use of tools in electrical repair work.
  • Orders and accounts for material and labor relative to assignments, accurately.
  • Maintains all safety and code requirements of the State, local and Board of Education guidelines.
  • Performs general electrical maintenance and some new installations according to code work inside and outside the physical plant.
  • Recommends supplies and equipment for purchase, and maintains the inventory of district-owned hand tools, equipment, hardware, materials and supplies.
  • Completes all assigned routine and planned maintenance within a reasonable time period.
  • Communicates with Foreman on a scheduled basis to discuss current and anticipated work load.
  • May be required to drive a company vehicle to perform certain job duties to any location within the District.
  • Performs other duties as may be assigned by the Supervisor.
