About The Position

Responsible for providing skilled journey-level installation, repair, electrical and electronic equipment and facilities systems on a variety of County buildings and facilities.

Requirements

High School Diploma/GED, successful completion of a recognized apprenticeship in the electrical trade, AND one (1) year of journey-level electrician/HVAC experience; OR an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
Knowledge of principles, methods and materials used in the installation, repair and maintenance of a variety of electrical/HVAC systems and equipment.
Knowledge of methods and materials used in electronic information and control system installation, maintenance and repair.
Knowledge of safe work methods and safety regulations pertaining to the work.
Knowledge of shop mathematics.
Knowledge of operation and maintenance of a wide variety of hand, power and shop tools and equipment common to the field.
Knowledge of computer applications related to the work.
Knowledge of job estimation principles and practices.
Knowledge of techniques for dealing with a variety of individuals from various ethnic and social backgrounds.
Skill in operating and maintaining specialized tools and test and safety equipment of the electrical trade.
Skill in designing, laying out and preparing sketches for electrical, electronic and related installation and maintenance jobs.
Skill in estimating necessary materials and equipment to complete assignments.
Skill in safely operating and maintaining a variety of hand, power and shop tools and equipment used in the work.
Skill in using initiative and independent judgment within established procedural guidelines.
Skill in preparing records and reports of work performed.
Skill in reading and interpreting manuals, specifications and drawings.
Skill in understanding and following written and oral instructions.
Skill in working successfully with a variety of individuals from various socio-economic, ethnic and cultural backgrounds.
Skill in contributing effectively to the accomplishment of team or work unit goals, objectives and activities.
Driver’s license.
Obtain OSHA certificate within six (6) months of date of hire.

Responsibilities

Participates in the design, layout and installation of office, public facility, shop, and other remodeling, repair or modification projects affecting County buildings and facilities; takes measurements; prepares working drawings and sketches; assists in preparing project specifications.
Estimates materials, parts, tools and equipment needed for work assignments; orders and picks up materials and supplies from outside vendors as appropriate; prepares cost estimates for job.
Performs skilled electrical work such as the installation of wire, conduit, outlets, fixtures, switches, appliances, timers, alarm systems, lighting systems, appliances and other elements of office and public facilities.
Performs skilled electrical work such as the installation of motors, pumps, control systems, auxiliary power systems, and similar major installations in plant and public facilities; may work from aerial lift equipment.
Inspects and performs preventive maintenance on systems and equipment; tests emergency power, lighting, alarm and other backup systems to ensure ongoing usage.
Tests and troubleshoots electrical and electronic components, repairs or orders and replaces components, rewires systems, and tests equipment prior to placing back into service.
Reads diagrams, blueprints, specifications and manuals for installation and repair projects.
Maintains and services electrical test and repair equipment and hand and power tools; keeps small inventory of frequently used supplies and parts.
Ensures that proper safety precautions are followed, particularly around energized circuits.
Drives County vehicles to work sites and transports materials and assistants as required.
Completes and maintains reports of work performed; completes forms and maintains accurate maintenance records.
Ability to offer suggestions and directions or participation as an active member of a work team.
Demonstrates courteous and cooperative behavior when interacting with public and staff; acts in a manner that promotes a harmonious and effective workplace environment.
