About The Position

Xcel Energy is seeking an Apprentice or Journeyman Electrician to join their team at the Nichols Generating Station in Amarillo, TX. This role involves troubleshooting, constructing, and maintaining high and low voltage equipment, as well as repairing plant HVAC systems. The position requires active participation in hands-on, classroom, and computer-based training, with the goal of successfully completing a 4-year apprentice program and qualifying as an Electrician Journeyman. Travel to other locations may be required. The work environment includes exposure to energized/rotating equipment, confined spaces, heights, noise, chemical fumes, lead, dust, and a wide range of ambient temperatures. Employees will work off ladders and scaffolding, in elevated positions, and may handle hazardous materials. The job requires the ability to walk, climb stairs and ladders, and work on uneven surfaces.

Requirements

High school diploma or GED
Must successfully pass the Edison Electric Institute (EEI) Maintenance Positions Selection Systems (MASS) test.
Must respond to overtime and call outs.
Must commit to working safely and adhere to Company safety rules including wearing a hard hat, safety footwear, protective eye wear and Proper Protective Equipment (PPE).
Able to lift 50 pounds
Valid driver’s license
Must be respirator qualified (Pulmonary Function Test)
Must take Base line Audiogram.
Successfully pass the Xcel Energy screening requirements, which include a drug test, security clearance and other exams that are required by federal regulations.
