About The Position

The Illinois Department of Corrections is looking for a candidate to serve as an Electrician at Lawrence Correctional Center. The ideal candidate will install and maintain all electrical systems within the facility, maintain electrically driven mechanical equipment, provide guidance, direction and instruction to individuals in custody in routine maintenance, and prepare reports and keep records of material and supplies used. Requirements

  • Requires knowledge, skill, and mental development equivalent to completion of four (4) years of high school.
  • Requires successful completion of a recognized electrician apprenticeship program and four (4) years full-time journey level electrician experience or eight (8) years of full-time journey level electrician experience.
  • Requires ability to pass the IDOC/IDJJ background check.
  • Requires ability to pass a drug screen. The use of unauthorized drugs by an employee, regardless of position held, is prohibited.
  • Required to utilize digital technology, tools, platforms, and processes in managing and supporting various digital enhancements for greater efficiency, productivity, and digital transformation efforts within the department.
  • Applicants are required to abide by all vaccine and/or other medical standards as set out by the employer.

Nice To Haves

  • Prefers at least three (3) years of working experience performing routine maintenance inspections of building electrical equipment.
  • Prefers at least three (3) years of working experience repairing and maintaining electric switchboards, panels, household electric appliances and other apparatuses utilizing electricity or its effects.
  • Prefers at least three (3) years of working experience installing and maintaining electrical systems, which operate on alternating or direct current circuits and high voltage lines or generators.
  • Prefers at least three (3) years of working experience maintaining a preventative maintenance program.
  • Prefers at least three (3) years of working experience maintaining daily counts of tools.
  • Prefers at least three (3) years of working experience completing reports.
  • Prefers at least two (2) years of working experience in a correctional setting.

Responsibilities

  • Performs routine maintenance inspections in accordance with facility work order system and master craft/routine/cycle lists.
  • Instructs, leads, and directs unskilled workers assigned to assist with tasks.
  • Repairs and maintains electric switchboards, panels, household appliances, air conditioners, television sets, and other apparatuses utilizing electricity or its effects, i.e. buffers, intercoms, locking control systems, security camera systems, computer local network using fiberoptic cabling, and cable TV system.
  • Installs and maintains electrical systems which operate on alternating or direct current circuits and high voltage lines.
  • Maintains an effective preventative maintenance program which will eliminate major electrical failures.
  • Dresses and polishes commutations.
  • Maintains a daily count of tools assigned.
  • Performs other duties as required or assigned which are reasonably within the scope of the duties enumerated above.
