The Illinois Department of Corrections and the Office of Adult Education and Vocational Services (OAEVS) are seeking a professional educator with a valid Professional Education License. This OAEVS educator will deliver Adult Basic Education and Adult Secondary Education services to adult individuals. The role involves assessing student learning needs, planning and implementing instructional activities, evaluating student success, and promoting a positive learning environment, with a mission to engage, educate, and empower adult education students.

Requirements

Requires possession of a current and valid ISBE-issued Professional Educator License with endorsement appropriate to the content area Elementary & Secondary Education in grades K-12.
Requires the ability to travel.
Requires ability to pass the IDOC/IDJJ background check.
Requires the ability to pass a drug screen. The use of unauthorized drugs, regardless of the position held, is prohibited.
Applicants are required to abide by all vaccine and/or other medical standards as set out by the employer.

Nice To Haves

Prefers at least two (2) years of professional teaching experience.
Prefers at least two (2) years of professional experience evaluating standardized test scores concerning students.
Prefers at least two (2) years of professional experience reviewing and selecting course material and teaching aids.
Prefers at least two (2) years of professional experience preparing a flexible course syllabus utilizing various instructional methods designed to benefit students.
Prefers at least one (1) year of professional experience preparing reports consistent with the administrative requirements of the academic program and/or the institution’s objectives.

Responsibilities

Administer classroom and individual level instruction to participating individuals in custody.
Within the purview of the Curriculum Policy, develop curricula for each assigned teaching subject and approximate grade level.
Prepares and keeps detailed records and reports on attendance, achievement and individual progress and needs of the students
Direct students in additional school related activities when necessary.
Attends and participates in discussion and planning at regular teachers meetings, including counselor-teacher meetings, team meetings and staff development.
Performs other duties as required or assigned which are reasonably within the scope of the duties enumerated above.
