About The Position

This role involves operating and maintaining electrical systems and equipment within a food manufacturing setting. The Electrician will be responsible for ensuring the reliable operation of plant electrical systems, troubleshooting and repairing machinery, and performing preventative maintenance. The position requires adherence to safety and quality standards, as well as collaboration with various departments and external contractors.

Requirements

  • Valid Ontario Electrician’s license 442A or 309A
  • College diploma from a technical college or university for electronic technician or electronic instrumentation.
  • Five to seven years related experience.
  • Excellent motor skills and in-depth knowledge of programmable logic controllers, operator interfaces and automated process equipment.
  • Expertise in analytical, logic and fault-finding skills in troubleshooting and repair of process/packaging machinery and preventative/predictive maintenance systems.
  • Good working knowledge of electronic devices and circuits.
  • Ability to meet physical demands of lifting and maneuvering heavy objects.
  • Sound judgement and problem-solving skills.
  • Computer literacy.
  • Results-oriented and a strong sense of urgency/focus.
  • Knowledge and understanding of SOP’s and work instructions.
  • Understand, participate in, and support all safety programs, policies and initiatives within the manufacturing location.
  • Understands and follows Ewen Manufacturing food safety systems and procedures.
  • Responsible for ensuring all packaged product produced meets all GMP and food safety requirements.

Nice To Haves

  • Courses in Allen Bradley and Siemens Programmable Logic Controllers
  • SAP, Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel and PowerPoint are highly desirable.
  • Lift Truck license is an asset.

Responsibilities

  • Operate and maintain electrical systems and equipment following autonomous maintenance (AM) standards.
  • Improve line and/or system performance to meet business needs.
  • Execute standard work processes using AM and PM standards.
  • Ensure safety processes are observed and quality assurance activities are performed.
  • Understand and report losses in their area and equipment.
  • Manage equipment electrical operating issues and work with equipment suppliers to resolve problems.
  • Oversee and maintain plant electrical systems to ensure a reliable power supply.
  • Manage and direct the work of on-site contractors when necessary.
  • Troubleshoot and support scheduled and unscheduled line shutdowns.
  • Manage electrical training for existing and new equipment, maintenance techniques, or regulatory compliance.
  • Upgrade and improve machine programs or equipment to meet production requirements and safety standards.
  • Install and maintain existing electrical assets throughout the plant.
  • Work with designs, layouts, and electrical drawings.
  • Maintain and troubleshoot A.C. and D.C. powered components for production equipment in processing and high-speed packaging machines.
  • Liaise with mechanical and production personnel.
  • Make decisions and prioritize jobs according to production requirements.
  • Observe safe practices in the performance of work duties.
  • Plan, install, and test electrical apparatus, control equipment, wiring, and power equipment.
  • Connect to programmable logic controllers (PLC) to troubleshoot machine or process control systems and make minor programming changes.
  • Read and decipher PLC code from manufacturers such as Allen Bradley and Siemens.
  • Modify graphics for operator interfaces (HMI).
  • Read and understand detailed electrical and electronic schematics.
  • Draw simple schematics to record modifications to equipment.
  • Test A.C. and D.C. motors to determine their condition.
  • Take measurements to ensure leakage resistance is within acceptable levels.
  • Use company meters to troubleshoot problems in electrical power and control systems.
  • Promptly correct any hazardous condition on production equipment.
  • Troubleshoot electronic registration systems/sensors.
  • Carry out additions and alterations on plant equipment to improve operation and safety.
  • Work with the Mechanical Maintenance Department in troubleshooting equipment.
  • Maintain and upgrade all plant equipment to Ontario Hydro Electrical Safety Code.
  • Perform corrective and preventative maintenance on facility and production equipment.
  • Assist operations in setting up procedures for isolating equipment prior to clean up.
  • Understand and follow SOPs and work instructions.
  • Understand, participate in, and support all safety programs, policies, and initiatives.
  • Understand and follow Ewen Manufacturing food safety systems and procedures.
  • Ensure all packaged product produced meets all GMP and food safety requirements.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by supervisor.
