About The Position

The University of Iowa is seeking an Electrician to join the Facilities Management Department. Under supervision, this role performs electrical maintenance and installation services required in their assigned area. The department intends to hire for one position at either the Electrician II or Electrician III classification based on the qualifications of the successful candidate. This position is performed fully on campus.

Requirements

  • State of Iowa Class A Journeyman Electrician license with at least four years as an apprentice plus two years of experience as a journeyman electrician; or State of Iowa Class B Journeyman Electrician license with eight years in the electrical trade in maintenance or construction (for Electrician II).
  • State of Iowa Class A Master Electrician license with four years as an apprentice plus four years of experience as a journeyman electrician; or State of Iowa Class B Master Electrician license with ten years in the electrical trade in maintenance or construction (for Electrician III).
  • Must possess a valid driver’s license and ability to meet and maintain UI Fleet Safety Standards.
  • Ability to follow oral and written instructions.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience troubleshooting and installing systems ranging from 24 volts to 480 volts (Electrician II).
  • Experience with lighting controls (Electrician II & III).
  • Experience with variable frequency drives (VFDs) and motor controls (Electrician II).
  • Demonstrate basic computer experience (Electrician II).
  • Experience using computerized maintenance management system (CMMS) (Electrician II & III).
  • Ability to communicate effectively (Electrician II).
  • Good customer interaction skills (Electrician II).
  • Ability to work in a team setting (Electrician II & III).
  • Professional experience working effectively with individuals from a variety of backgrounds and perspectives (Electrician II & III).
  • Experience with building automation controls (Electrician III).
  • Experience with Variable Frequency Drives and motor controls (Electrician III).
  • Experience with advanced electrical metering (e.g. megger, power loggers, rotation meters) (Electrician III).
  • Good communication skills (Electrician III).
  • Prefer basic computer experience (Electrician III).

Responsibilities

  • Read and interpret drawings, job tickets and plan jobs accordingly and requisition the proper quantities of materials.
  • Troubleshoot inoperative equipment.
  • Install and repair lighting devices.
  • Install electric motors and motor control devices.
  • Install conduit and other types of wire.
  • Pull electrical conductors and connect in proper order.
