About The Position

CenterPoint Energy is looking for a Plant Electrician to join our Power Supply team. In this role, you will support safe, reliable power generation by performing preventative maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of electrical, control, and instrumentation systems across the power plant. This position includes scheduled and emergency call-out overtime, including nights, weekends, and holidays. You will have the ability to maintain and repair electrical, control, and instrumentation equipment to keep plant systems operating safely and reliably.

Requirements

  • Associate degree in Electrical Technology (or related field) or equivalent job-related experience.
  • 1–5 years of job-related electrical maintenance experience in an industrial, power generation, or process environment.
  • Job-related formal training/experience equivalent to 4–6 years.
  • Strong knowledge of electrical and pneumatic control systems.
  • Experience with instrumentation and calibration procedures.
  • Ability to read and interpret electrical prints and schematics.
  • Ability to use a computer for routine communication and data entry/retrieval.
  • Ability to work safely outdoors in varying conditions (hot, cold, wet, humid, noisy, dusty).
  • Ability to enter confined spaces, work at heights, climb stairs and ladders, and perform physical tasks including stooping, bending, crawling, and lifting up to 50 pounds.
  • Availability to work overtime and respond to emergency call-outs as business needs require.
  • Power plant electrical maintenance experience.
  • Experience with maintenance management systems (CMMS) and/or plant control systems.
  • Forklift and aerial lift certification (or the ability to obtain).

Responsibilities

  • Perform routine preventative maintenance, troubleshooting, and emergency repair of plant electrical equipment and related systems.
  • Install, test, troubleshoot, and repair electrical and control components including motors, starters, breakers, relays, switches, and associated wiring.
  • Support and maintain pneumatic control systems, instrumentation, and calibration activities as required.
  • Read and interpret electrical prints and schematics to perform installation, troubleshooting, and repair work.
  • Document maintenance activities and complete required data entry/retrieval using computer-based systems.
  • Operate a forklift and aerial work platform when required and authorized.
  • Work collaboratively with operations, maintenance, and other plant personnel to meet site goals and respond to emergent issues.
  • Follow all safety rules, procedures, and permitting requirements, including working safely around energized equipment, heights, and confined spaces.
  • Be available for scheduled and emergency call-out overtime, including nights, weekends, and holidays.
