About The Position

The Electrician Trainee position is part of a trainee program designed to facilitate the development of the Maintenance skilled trades workforce within the Mapleton Foundry. The position allows employees to gain the knowledge and skills to become a 6E51 Electrician. A 36-month On-The-Job Learning (OJL) and Work Based Learning Program with college courses at Illinois Central College is required to graduate. Tuition, fees, and books are all covered expenses. This competency-based program provides instruction and experience in the replacement, repair, and troubleshooting of circuit boards, power supplies, lighting and lighting systems, motors and motor components, commercial wiring, programmable controllers, and automation systems. Progression and compensation while in this training program are based upon successful demonstration of competency in performing foundry electrician functions.

Requirements

  • Knowledge and/or willingness to learn new skills
  • Good time management and analytical skills
  • Successfully pass a 2-hour skills exam upon graduation
  • Be able to work near high voltage electricity, molten metal, heavy equipment, various gases, moving machinery, high above the floor and in congested or congested or confined areas.
  • Ability to stand throughout an 8 to 12-hour shift
  • Applicant must enroll at ICC and complete the Mechanical Aptitude Test as part of this application

Responsibilities
