About The Position

Perform tasks involved in electrical maintenance, repair, and renovations of campus buildings, systems, and equipment. This includes distribution systems, motors, relays, starters, and transformers. The role involves installing new electrical work and requires knowledge of regulatory codes like the National Electric Code. This position is considered essential during emergency situations and may require reporting to work outside of normal hours.

Requirements

  • High school diploma
  • Minimum of a two-year electrical degree from a vocational college or equivalent experience
  • Knowledge of commercial and residential electrical systems
  • Experience working with single and three phase voltages and regulatory codes
  • Good written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to work independently
  • Successfully pass a background check
  • Ability to lift and carry 80 lbs.
  • Experience and ability to operate a variety of power/hand tools and testing devices
  • A valid driver’s license
  • Adherence to the requirements of the Office of Risk Management

Responsibilities

  • Perform duties and responsibilities congruent with departmental goals, energy conservation and in support of institutional goals.
  • Complete all work to established standards or required specifications.
  • Isolate defects in wiring, switches and other electrical equipment using suitable testing instruments.
  • Plan, layout, install and assemble materials and fixtures as requested by the scope of work.
  • Review service requests from the computerized service request system and update as needed.
  • Run electrical conduit.
  • Repair, maintain, alter or erect any wiring apparatus.
  • Examine and test elements or electrical systems to locate obvious faults, such as blown fuses, short circuits, broken wires, loose connections etc.
  • Read and follow schematics and blueprints as directed.
  • Operate a variety of vehicles and equipment and inform supervisor of all equipment needing major repair work.
  • Assist in ensuring security of vehicles, tools and other equipment.
  • Comply with all applicable standards, policies, and procedures, including safety procedures and the maintenance of a clean work area.
  • Develop and maintain a cooperative working relationship with the campus community.
  • Participate in review and evaluation of existing modes of operation and recommend methods for increased efficiency and cost reduction.
  • Participate in workshops, seminars, training sessions and staff meetings as directed.
  • Periodically serve as a member of the electrical team on-call rotation.
