About The Position

Smithfield is seeking an Electrician Maintenance professional for its 3rd Shift operations. This role is crucial for maintaining, troubleshooting, and repairing a variety of electrical and mechanical equipment within a food processing environment. The position requires a broad skill set including electrical controls, fluid power, mechanical systems, welding, fabrication, and manufacturing processes. The successful candidate will perform medium to high-level machine systems troubleshooting and repair, providing essential technical support across all operational phases. This role involves tasks of average to considerable difficulty in mechanical maintenance actions.

Requirements

  • Proficiency in multiple skill clusters, such as electrical controls, fluid power, mechanical systems, welding, fabrication and manufacturing processes.
  • Ability to perform a task requiring continuous/repetitive movement, including grasping, pinching hands, flexing and extending arms.
  • Ability to stand on concrete and/or platforms for up to a 12-hour shift.
  • Ability to work around animal blood and/or body parts.
  • Ability to work in cold areas (Approx. 20-40F).
  • Ability to work in warm areas (over 100F).
  • Ability to work in a wet/humid environment.
  • Ability to work with a knife (if trained).
  • Ability to work while wearing a hard hat, hearing/eye protection, and steel-toed safety shoes.
  • Can understand and follow oral and written instructions.
  • Can lift heavy objects, which can weigh up to 60lbs.
  • Ability to work with sanitation/cleaning chemicals.
  • Ability to work with strong odors/smells.
  • Can work in a noisy environment.
  • Ability to climb, move on ladders, steps, stairways, walkways, and platforms.
  • Can bend, stoop, and twist repetitively throughout your entire shift.
  • Can walk long distances.
  • Repetitive overhead lifting up to 30 lbs.
  • Ability to operate powered industrial trucks, including scissor lifts, pallet jacks, etc.
  • Ability to work with a variety of chemicals, solvents, and understand/abide by the corresponding material safety data sheet, MSDS.
  • Ability to read, write the following: work orders, instructions, daily reports and machine manuals.
  • Willing to pass physical to wear respirators or self-contained breathing apparatus.
  • Stand and/or work on moving platforms and elevated platforms.
  • Ability to receive and relate orders/information using various communication devices.
  • HS Diploma or equivalency required.
  • Must be able to read and write fluently in English to communicate and understand technical/ training manuals written in English.
  • Possess the ability to function effectively in a team environment and interact productively with all levels of team personnel and outside contractors.
  • Displays sound judgment, organizational skills and the ability to work independently with little supervision.
  • Applicants must be authorized to work in the United States on a full-time basis.
  • Regularly required to talk or hear.
  • Frequently required to stand; sit and use hands to finger, handle, or feel.
  • Occasionally required to walk; reach with hands and arms; climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl and taste or smell.
  • Must regularly lift and/or move up to 10 pounds, frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds or greater.
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.

Nice To Haves

  • Associate’s degree (A.A.) or equivalent from two-year college or technical school; and 2 to 4 years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience preferred.
  • Ability to operate a forklift, genie lift or scissor lift preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain, troubleshoot, and repair a variety of electrical and mechanical equipment in a food processing environment.
  • Perform medium to high-level machine systems troubleshooting and repair.
  • Provide technical support for all phases of the operation.
  • Perform work orders and PMs based on verbal and written instructions, blueprints, and sketches.
  • Troubleshoot and diagnose equipment and systems for emergency repairs.
  • Adjust, repair, dissemble, replace, and reassemble plant equipment using skills, experience, and general knowledge.
  • Perform preventive maintenance routines and inspections.
  • Utilize hand tools and common powered hand and shop tools.
  • Approach job duties with a sense of accuracy and urgency.
  • Other duties as assigned.
