About The Position

The person in this position operates mechanical equipment to assemble, repair, and fabricate metal parts. This role requires the ability to repair and possess knowledge of EMD locomotive electrical systems, as well as other electrical systems. The individual must be able to troubleshoot and repair electrical systems, read and understand electrical blueprints and drawings, and have knowledge of EMD diesel engines, air compressors, air brake equipment, gas engines, and other related mechanical equipment. Additionally, skills include welding and fabricating metal using a torch and electric welding machines, proficiency in computers and office equipment, and maintaining records of repairs and inspections. The role involves cross-training as a Machinist and inspecting and repairing railcars in compliance with FRA and AAR regulations. Pay is per contract: $32.43/hour first year, $34.34/hour second year, and $38.15/hour full pay after completing the second year.

Requirements

Must be able to repair and have knowledge of EMD locomotive electrical systems, as well as other electrical systems.
Must have the ability to troubleshoot and repair electrical systems.
Must be able to read and understand electrical blueprints and drawings.
Must have knowledge of EMD diesel engines, air compressors, air brake equipment, gas engines and other related mechanical equipment.
Other skills include the ability to weld and fabricate metal using a torch and electric welding machines.
Must be proficient in the use of computers and office equipment.
Must have a valid driver’s license.
May be required to maintain records of repairs and inspections of locomotives and other related machinery.
Will be cross trained as Machinist.
Two years of related experience and/or training
High school diploma or GED, two years of related experience and training, or an equivalent combination of education and experience
Valid Driver's license

Nice To Haves

Take class on electrical training from Railway educational Bureau or previous Qualified Electrical.

Responsibilities

Perform all tasks connected with locomotive major repair, rebuild, and diagnostics; perform internal inspections of engine components and ensure policies, procedures, and reporting are in compliance
Perform electrical testing and repair, including testing and replacing printed circuit cards; diagnose electrical problems in both power circuits and control circuits
Perform welding repairs and new-metal fabrication as part of the repair or construction of all equipment and locomotives
Perform all air brake cleaning and testing as specified by FRA standards and company policy
Use locomotive wheel truing equipment and understand the operation of drill press and lathes
Operate, repair, adjust and clean heating equipment (engine-house boiler and related equipment)
Keep records and reports in accordance with FRA regulations and company policy
Assist with other projects and perform other duties as assigned
Inspect and repair railcars in compliance with applicable FRA and AAR regulations and standards
