About The Position

The City of Port St. Lucie is seeking a skilled Electrician Journeyman for its Facilities Maintenance Department. This role involves performing rough and finished electrical work, troubleshooting electrical motor failures, and conducting preventative maintenance on electrical circuitry. The position requires a commitment to public trust and confidence, and candidates must pass a drug screening and an FDLE FCIC/NCIC background check due to unescorted access to secure areas of the Police Department. This is an "Essential Position" requiring 24/7 availability during City emergencies. The starting salary range is $27.09 - $31.15 per hour, depending on qualifications.

Requirements

  • Graduation from an accredited high school or possession of an acceptable equivalency diploma.
  • Graduation from an accepted trade school or possession of an acceptable equivalency diploma.
  • Minimum of two (2) years’ experience in electrical construction, installation, repairs, and maintenance at the Journeyman level.
  • A valid driver’s license and a clean driving record.
  • Possession of a Journeyman’s Level Electrician License.
  • Knowledge of the standard methods, materials, tools, codes, and practices of the electrical trade.
  • Knowledge of electric circuitry involving motors, breakers, relays, etc.
  • Skill in the use of various tools, techniques, and equipment in the electrical trade.
  • Ability to identify and solve electrical problems effectively.
  • Ability to interpret and understand electrical blueprints.
  • A solid understanding of electrical theory, systems, and components.
  • Ability to plan, lay out, and perform electrical work of average difficulty.
  • Ability to work from blueprints and/or sketches.
  • Ability to communicate effectively in writing and orally.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees and the public.

Responsibilities

  • Installs, repairs, and maintains electrical services in City-owned buildings.
  • Maintains electrical equipment such as outlets, lights, motors, relays, alternators, starters, breakers, VFD’s, and transformers.
  • Performs regular and punctual attendance.
  • Assists in maintenance operations.
  • Operates vehicles, tools, and equipment as duties require.
  • May assist in the calibration and process control equipment utilizing various types of test equipment.
  • May assist Instrumentation Technicians in troubleshooting and repairing PLC’s, HMI, and BF Modems.
  • Performs other duties as may be assigned.
