Reporting to the High Voltage Shop Supervisor, you will be part of a skilled team responsible for ensuring reliable power distribution and system performance across the University’s facilities, supporting ENGIE’s long ‑ term commitment to efficient and sustainable campus operations. What You Will Do Install, maintain, troubleshoot, and repair electrical systems, equipment, and controls across utility and production environments at The University of Iowa Perform preventive maintenance and inspections on switchgear, breakers, motors, lighting systems, and instrumentation to ensure safe and reliable operation Support the operation, testing, and repair of medium voltage systems (600V-15kV) under the guidance of High Voltage Electricians Diagnose and resolve issues involving motor control centers, variable frequency drives (VFDs), and building automation systems Read and interpret electrical blueprints, schematics, and diagrams to safely execute assigned work Plan work sequences, coordinate outages, and document maintenance and repair activities in accordance with established procedures Participate in scheduled on-call rotations for maintenance coverage as needed

Requirements

  • This role requires a minimum education level of a High School Diploma or GED
  • State of Iowa Class A or B Journeyman Electrician license
  • A minimum of two (2) years of hands ‑ on experience as a Journeyman Electrician applying electrical theory, troubleshooting electrical systems, and performing equipment maintenance
  • Familiarity with electrical codes, utility standards, safety regulations, and hazard precautions
  • Ability to read and interpret wiring diagrams and schematics, perform precision electrical measurements, and maintain accurate technical documentation
  • This role requires on-site attendance at the designated worksite on a daily basis
  • Must possess a valid U.S. driver’s license with a clean driving record
  • Must be physically capable of safely performing essential job functions, including: Hearing and understanding audible alarms, detecting changes in equipment noise levels, and using portable radio communication Capable of frequently standing, walking, balancing, sitting, climbing ladders, stairs, ramps, catwalks and the like as required, kneeling; pushing; pulling; lifting (min. 50 lbs) Capable of performing repetitive motions as required
  • Must have eyesight corrected to at least 20/40 to accurately read and interpret instruments, gauges, diagrams, and technical manuals
  • Must be physically capable of wearing personal protective equipment (PPE), including but not limited to half and full-face respirators, fall protection equipment, hard hat, safety shoes, safety glasses
  • Must be willing and able to comply with all ENGIE ethics and safety policies
