About The Position
This position is located at Foothills Correctional Institution in Morganton, NC Burke County. Foothills Correctional Institution is a close/minimum custody male facility. This is journeyman level work in the construction, installation, maintenance, and repair of electrical systems, equipment, and fixtures. New or unusual work orders are usually accompanied by sketches or blueprints. This position will report to the facility Maintenance Supervisor.
Requirements
- High school or General Educational Development (GED) diploma and two years of experience in the construction or repair of secondary electrical systems; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- May require appropriate licensure by the governing board or commission based on the nature of work performed.

- Considerable knowledge of the standard practices and methods of the electrical trade.
- Documented knowledge in the use and care of tools of the trade.
- Documented knowledge to read and work from blueprints and sketches.
Responsibilities
- Installs, alters, and repairs wiring, circuit breakers, transformers, and power distribution systems.
- Measures, cuts, threads, bends, and installs conduit, and pulls wire through existing conduit systems.
- Installs, maintains, and repairs electrical equipment and lighting.
- Troubleshoots and repairs electrical systems and equipment.
- Ensures institutional and safety compliance with electrical codes and regulations.
