About The Position

This position performs skilled electrical work in the installation, maintenance, and repair of electrical systems and equipment across municipal facilities. As a "Master or Journeyman" electrician, the role involves installing, maintaining, and repairing various electrical systems including lighting, power distribution, and control systems. Key duties include changing light bulbs, ballasts, drivers, and LED fixtures, as well as upgrading lighting systems for efficiency and reliability. The electrician will troubleshoot and repair faulty receptacles, switches, contractors, circuit breakers, panels, and electrical wiring. They will also install and maintain electrical outlets, circuits, and branch wiring for offices, facilities, and equipment, and wire cubicles, offices, and workspace systems while ensuring compliance with electrical codes. The role also includes diagnosing and repairing electric motors, motor controls, and associated components, as well as installing, maintaining, and repairing low-voltage systems such as cameras, access control, speakers, and monitoring equipment. Maintenance and servicing of emergency power systems, including generators and transfer switches, are also part of the responsibilities. The position requires performing preventive maintenance on electrical systems, assisting with special event setups by installing and maintaining temporary electrical services, and reading/interpreting blueprints, schematics, and technical drawings. Ensuring work complies with codes and safety standards, organizing work orders, identifying material needs, responding to emergencies, and maintaining tools and inventory are also essential functions. This role performs other related duties as assigned.

Requirements

High School Diploma or GED required
Completion of a trade school program in electrical systems or possession of a Journeyman Electrician card preferred
Minimum of five (5) years of experience in commercial electrical troubleshooting, maintenance, and repair
Strong knowledge of electrical systems, components, and safety practices
Ability to read and interpret blueprints, schematics, and technical manuals.
Knowledge of electrical supplies and materials.
Knowledge of national electrical codes.
Skill in reading voltage meters, blueprints, and electric schematics
Skill in electrical wiring, pipe running, wire pulling, and transformer hookup.
Skill in the use of hand tools, a bucket truck, voltmeters, and amprobes.
Skill in oral and written communication.
Ability to operate machinery used in performing essential job functions.
Ability to operate a motor vehicle.

Nice To Haves

Experience working in municipal, institutional, or large commercial facilities.

Organizes and prioritizes work orders; identifies materials and equipment needed to complete tasks efficiently.
Responds to emergency electrical issues, including power outages and system failures.
Maintains tools, equipment, and inventory related to electrical work.
Performs other related duties as assigned.
