About The Position

The Maintenance Department at Facilities and Business Operations is seeking an experienced Electrician II to perform and install both rough-in and finished electrical work for university projects, including new construction and renovations across campus. Key responsibilities include completing CMMS work requests as assigned and ensuring all electrical work meets national and state codes. The ideal candidate will possess journeyman-level expertise in electrical systems, with the ability to specify, build, install, test, and adapt complex electronic and electrical components, as well as perform preventative maintenance to support the university's infrastructure.

Requirements

  • Licensed as an electrician in the State of Florida and 3+ years of relevant experience.
  • For applicants who hold a license in another state (Georgia, North Carolina, or California) which has reciprocity with the State of Florida, they will need to apply to the Department of Business and Professional Regulation to get their license approved as a Florida equivalent license.
  • For those applicants who hold a license in a state in which Florida does not have reciprocity, they will have six months to take the examination.
  • Position requires a valid Class E driver’s license.
  • Able to communicate in conversational English to work effectively with customers and team members and comprehend standard safety procedures.
  • All applicants must be authorized to work for any U.S. employer.

Nice To Haves

  • Minimum of 4 years of relevant experience with a strong background in maintaining and repairing electrical systems in a commercial or institutional setting.
  • Experience with university or large facility maintenance operations is highly desirable.
  • Proficient in performing preventative maintenance and repair tasks, with a strong ability to interpret electrical blueprints, schematics, and technical manuals.
  • Ability to perform complex electrical troubleshooting, repairs, and preventative maintenance with excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
  • Strong understanding of low and medium voltage systems, transformers, controls, and some fire alarm systems.
  • Working knowledge of trades classifications and functions including tools, materials, and task-specific sequencing required for maintenance, sanitation, and repairs.
  • Experience with Integrated Work Management Systems (IWMS) or similar platforms for work order management.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to provide clear and concise updates and reports.
  • Familiarity with national and state electrical codes and regulations.
  • Willingness to work flexible hours, including occasional evenings or weekends, as needed.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain and service low and medium voltage components.
  • Perform repair and replacement of electrical installations.
  • Test, calibrate, and maintain controls, transformers, and self-contained watt-hour meters.
  • Clean and maintain power distribution equipment, tools, and supplies.
  • Maintain and repair fire alarm systems.
  • Service wiring, power appliances, light machinery, electrical circuits, motors, generators, and other electrical equipment.
  • Locate and correct power failures and electrical malfunctions.
  • Make emergency electrical repairs as needed.
  • Execute preventative maintenance on electrical systems.
  • Ensure maintenance requirements for new and existing electrical and mechanical systems are accurately initiated and updated.
  • Complete assigned work orders in a timely manner using the CMMS system.
  • Assist in maintaining a system of internal controls to ensure effective, efficient operations and compliance with laws, regulations, standards, policies, and procedures.
  • Coordinate with stakeholders to schedule utility and equipment shutdowns or area closures necessary for project completion.
  • Adhere to committed schedule completion dates and productivity standards, reporting any discrepancies.
  • Review all work orders assigned to the zone and ensure accurate data entry in the CMMS, including work status, details, costs (labor/materials), dates, times, invoices, images, and corrective actions.
  • Ensure timely response to life safety and urgent work orders.
  • Participate in the Quality Assurance (QA) and Audit program.
